Is there impure seminal emission for an Arahant? For an Arahant skilled in one's own doctrine, there is impure seminal emission. For an Arahant skilled in another's doctrine, there is no impure seminal emission. For an Arahant skilled in one's own doctrine, is there impure seminal emission? Yes. For an Arahant skilled in another's doctrine, is there impure seminal emission? It should not be said thus... For an Arahant skilled in another's doctrine, is there no impure seminal emission? Yes. An Arahant skilled in others' doctrines is free from lust, free from hatred, free from delusion... ...what is to be realized has been realized. Is there for him no impure emission of semen? Yes. An Arahant skilled in the true doctrine is free from lust, free from hatred, free from delusion... ...what is to be realized has been realized. Is there for him no impure emission of semen? It should not be said thus... 313. Is there for an Arahant an impure emission of semen? Yes. Has it not been said by the Blessed One: "Monks, for those ordinary monks, who are endowed with virtue, mindful, and clearly comprehending, and who enter into sleep, no impurity is emitted for them. And, monks, for those external ascetics, who are dispassionate towards sensual pleasures, no impurity is emitted for them either. Monks, it is impossible, there is no occasion, for an Arahant to emit impurity." Is there such a Suttanta? Yes. Therefore, it should not be said: "There is for an Arahant an impure..." emission of semen. Should it not be said – "There is a gift from others for an Arahant"? Yes. Do not others offer robes, almsfood, lodgings, and medicinal requisites for the sick to an Arahant? Yes. If others offer robes, almsfood, lodgings, and medicinal requisites for the sick to an Arahant, then indeed it should be said – "There is a gift from others for an Arahant." Do others offer robes, almsfood, lodgings, and medicinal requisites for the sick to an Arahant, and is there a gift from others for an Arahant? Yes. Do others offer the fruit of stream-entry, or the fruit of once-returning, or the fruit of non-returning, or Arahantship to an Arahant? It should not be said thus...etc. The discussion on gifts from others is concluded. 2. The Second Chapter (11) 2. Discussion on Ignorance 314. Is there ignorance for an Arahant? Yes. Is there for an Arahant: ignorance, the flood of ignorance, the yoke of ignorance, the latent tendency of ignorance, the obsession of ignorance, the fetter of ignorance, the hindrance of ignorance? It should not be said thus. Is there not for an Arahant: ignorance, the flood of ignorance, the yoke of ignorance, the latent tendency of ignorance, the obsession of ignorance, the fetter of ignorance, the hindrance of ignorance? Yes. If there is not for an Arahant: ignorance, the flood of ignorance, the yoke of ignorance, the latent tendency of ignorance, the obsession of ignorance, the fetter of ignorance, the hindrance of ignorance, then indeed it should not be said – "There is ignorance for an Arahant." Is there ignorance for an ordinary person, and is there for him: ignorance, the flood of ignorance, the yoke of ignorance, the latent tendency of ignorance, the obsession of ignorance, the fetter of ignorance, the hindrance of ignorance? Yes. Is there ignorance for an Arahant, and is there for him: ignorance, the flood of ignorance, the yoke of ignorance, the latent tendency of ignorance, the obsession of ignorance, the fetter of ignorance, the hindrance of ignorance? It should not be said thus. Is there ignorance for an Arahant, and is there not for him: ignorance, the flood of ignorance, the yoke of ignorance, the latent tendency of ignorance, the obsession of ignorance, the fetter of ignorance, the hindrance of ignorance? Yes. Is there ignorance for an ordinary person, and is there not for him: ignorance, the flood of ignorance, the... Is it a practice of ignorance? Is it an underlying tendency of ignorance? Is it an obsession of ignorance? Is it a fetter of ignorance? Is it a hindrance of ignorance? It should not be said so. Does an Arahant have ignorance? Yes. Would an Arahant, overcome by ignorance, take life, take what is not given, speak falsely, speak divisively, speak harshly, speak idly, break into houses, plunder, commit burglary, lie in wait on the highway, go to another's wife, destroy villages, destroy towns? It should not be said so. Does an ordinary person have ignorance? Would an ordinary person, overcome by ignorance, take life, take what is not given, speak falsely... destroy villages, destroy towns? Yes. Does an Arahant have ignorance? Would an Arahant, overcome by ignorance, take life, take what is not given... destroy villages, destroy towns? It should not be said so. Does an Arahant have ignorance, and would an Arahant not, overcome by ignorance, take life, take what is not given... destroy villages, destroy towns? Yes. Does an ordinary person have ignorance, and would an ordinary person not, overcome by ignorance, take life, take what is not given... destroy villages, destroy towns? It should not be said so. Does an Arahant have ignorance? Yes. Does an Arahant have ignorance concerning the Teacher, ignorance concerning the Dhamma, ignorance concerning the Sangha, ignorance concerning the training, ignorance concerning the past, ignorance concerning the future, ignorance concerning the past and future, ignorance concerning dependent origination and the states arisen from conditions? It should not be said so. Does an Arahant not have ignorance concerning the Teacher, ignorance concerning the Dhamma, ignorance concerning the Sangha, ignorance concerning the training, ignorance concerning the past, ignorance concerning the future, ignorance concerning the past and future, ignorance concerning dependent origination and the states arisen from conditions? Yes. If an Arahant does not have ignorance concerning the Teacher, ignorance concerning the Dhamma, ignorance concerning the Sangha... ignorance concerning dependent origination and the states arisen from conditions, then indeed... One should say:
