And the sixty-two wrong views spoken of by the Blessed One in the Brahmajāla Sutta, the exposition. The Chapter. 1. The Exposition of Ones (1) Conceit of birth What is the conceit of birth? Conceit, intoxication, being intoxicated, pride, imagining, being imagined, exaltation, upliftment, banner, grasping, desire for a crest of the mind —this is called "conceit of birth." (2-27) Conceit of clan, etc. What is the conceit of clan? Based on clan... and so on... Based on health... and so on... Based on youth... and so on... Based on life... and so on... Based on gain... and so on... Based on honor... and so on... Based on respect... and so on... Based on precedence... and so on... Based on retinue... and so on... Based on wealth... and so on... Based on beauty... and so on... Based on learning... and so on... Based on eloquence... and so on... Based on seniority... and so on... Based on being an alms-gatherer... and so on... Based on not being despised... and so on... Based on deportment Depending on the path, and so on, depending on psychic power, and so on, depending on fame, and so on, depending on virtue, and so on, depending on jhāna, and so on, depending on skill, and so on, depending on growth, and so on, depending on girth, and so on, depending on form, and so on, depending on completeness, intoxication, infatuation, being infatuated, conceit, conceiving, being conceited, uplift, rising up, banner, grasping, desire for a flag of the mind – this is called "intoxication of completeness". (28) Intoxication 845. Therein, what is intoxication? That intoxication, infatuation, being infatuated, conceit, conceiving, being conceited, uplift, rising up, banner, grasping, desire for a flag of the mind – this is called "intoxication". (29) Heedlessness 846. Therein, what is heedlessness? In bodily misconduct, or verbal misconduct, or mental misconduct, or in the five strands of sensual pleasure, the mind's letting go, giving up, or in the development of wholesome states, not doing it earnestly, not doing it continuously, not doing it steadfastly, being sluggish in conduct, having given up desire, having given up the burden, not practicing, not developing, not making much of it, not resolving, not applying oneself, heedlessness, that such heedlessness, being heedless, having been heedless – this is called "heedlessness". (30) Obstinacy 847. Therein, what is obstinacy? That obstinacy, making stiff, being stiff, harshness, roughness, unyieldingness, lack of pliancy – this is called "obstinacy". (31) Contentiousness 848. Therein, what is contentiousness? That contentiousness, counter-contentiousness, contending, counter-contending, having contended – this is called "contentiousness". (32) Excessive Desire 849. Therein, what is excessive desire? With ordinary robes, almsfood, lodgings, requisites for the sick, medicines, and accessories, or with the five strands of sensual pleasure, the desire for more of one who is not content, that such desire, going after desire, excessive desire, lust, attachment, attachment of the mind – this is called "excessive desire". (33) Great Desire 850. Therein, what is great desire? With ordinary robes, almsfood, lodgings,
