intense anger, extreme anger, hatred, malice, extreme malice, mental corruption, mental defilement, wrath, being angry, the state of being angry, hatred, being hostile, the state of being hostile, malevolence, acting with malevolence, hostility, opposition, fierceness, harshness, mental displeasure – this is called "the element of ill-will". Here, someone harasses beings with a hand, or a clod, or a stick, or a weapon, or a rope, or some other thing, whatever such oppression, harassment, injury, harmfulness, anger, hostility, destruction of others – this is called "the element of harmfulness". Therein, what is the element of renunciation? Thought, reasoning, connected with renunciation... ...right intention – this is called "the element of renunciation". All wholesome states are "the element of renunciation". Therein, what is the element of non-ill-will? Whatever friendliness towards beings, the act of being friendly, the state of being friendly, the liberation of mind through friendliness – this is called "the element of non-ill-will". Thought, reasoning, intention, application, clear expression, the mind's projection, right intention, connected with non-harmfulness – this is called "the element of non-harmfulness". Whatever compassion towards beings, the act of being compassionate, the state of being compassionate, the liberation of mind through compassion – this is called "the element of non-harmfulness". The feeling aggregate, the perception aggregate, the formations aggregate, and that form which is invisible and non-impinging, comprised within the phenomena-base, and the unconditioned element. Therein, what is the feeling aggregate? The feeling aggregate in one way – associated with contact. The feeling aggregate in two ways – there is that with cause, there is that without cause. This is called "the volitional formations aggregate." Among these, what is form unseen and unresisting, included in the mind-object base? Among these, what is the unconditioned element? The destruction of lust, the destruction of hatred, the destruction of delusion – this is called "the unconditioned element." This is called "the Dhamma element." Among these, what is the mind-consciousness element? Immediately after the eye-consciousness element has arisen and ceased, the mind element arises. Immediately after the mind element has arisen and ceased, mind, thought, mentality arises... ...and so on... ...that mind-consciousness element; immediately after the ear-consciousness element... ...and so on... ...immediately after the nose-consciousness element... ...and so on... ...immediately after the tongue-consciousness element... ...and so on... ...immediately after the body-consciousness element has arisen and ceased, the mind element arises.
