and whatever other formless phenomena there are, dependently arisen at that time, excluding the aggregate of feeling, excluding the aggregate of perception, excluding the aggregate of consciousness – this is the aggregate of formations at that time… these phenomena are indeterminate. Functional mind-consciousness element accompanied by joy. Functional mind-consciousness element accompanied by equanimity. 574. Which phenomena are indeterminate? At the time when the mind-consciousness element has arisen, functional, neither wholesome nor unwholesome, and not a result of kamma, accompanied by equanimity, having a visible object as its object… or having a mind-object as its object, or whatever it may be based on – at that time there is contact, there is feeling, there is perception, there is volition, there is mind, there is initial application, there is sustained application, there is equanimity, there is one-pointedness of mind, there is the faculty of energy, there is the faculty of concentration, there is the faculty of mind, there is the faculty of equanimity, there is the faculty of life; and whatever other formless phenomena there are, dependently arisen at that time – these phenomena are indeterminate… And at that time there are four aggregates, there are two sense bases, there are two ele Three are, three foods are, five faculties are, one contact is...etc. one mind-consciousness element is, one mind-object base is, one mind-object element is; or whatever other formless phenomena there are at that time, dependently arisen – these phenomena are indeterminate...etc. 575. What is the formation aggregate at that time? Contact, volition, initial application, sustained application, one-pointedness of mind, faculty of energy, faculty of concentration, faculty of life; or whatever other formless phenomena there are at that time, dependently arisen, apart from the feeling aggregate, apart from the perception aggregate, apart from the consciousness aggregate – this is the formation aggregate at that time...etc. these phenomena are indeterminate. Functional mind-consciousness element accompanied by equanimity. Rootless functional (actions) are indeterminate. Rooted sense-sphere functional (actions) 576. Which phenomena are indeterminate? At the time when the mind-consciousness element has arisen, functional, neither wholesome nor unwholesome, and not karmic result, accompanied by joy, associated with knowledge...etc. accompanied by joy, associated with knowledge, with prompting...etc. accompanied by joy, dissociated from knowledge...etc. accompanied by joy, dissociated from knowledge, with prompting...etc. accompanied by equanimity, associated with knowledge...etc. accompanied by equanimity, associated with knowledge, with prompting...etc. accompanied by equanimity, dissociated from knowledge...etc. accompanied by equanimity, dissociated from knowledge, with prompting, having form as object...etc. or having mind-objects as object, or whatever else is taken as object, at that time there is contact...etc. there is non-distraction...etc. these phenomena are indeterminate...etc. non-greed is an indeterminate root...etc. non-hatred is an indeterminate root...etc. these phenomena are indeterminate. Rooted sense-sphere functional (actions). Form-sphere functional (actions) 577. Which phenomena are indeterminate? At the time when one develops form-sphere jhāna, functional, neither wholesome nor unwholesome, and not karmic result, a pleasant abiding in this very life, secluded from sensual pleasures...etc. one abides having attained the first jhāna. the earth *kasiṇa*. At that time, contact arises... non-distraction arises... these phenomena are indeterminate. 578. Which phenomena are indeterminate? At the time when one develops a rūpa-sphere jhāna, which is functional, neither wholesome nor unwholesome, nor a result of kamma, a pleasant abiding in this very life, due to the cessation of initial and sustained application... the second jhāna... the third jhāna... the fourth jhāna... the first jhāna... the fifth jhāna, one enters and abides with the earth *kasiṇa*. At that time, contact arises... non-distraction arises... these phenomena are indeterminate. Functional rūpa-sphere (actions). Functional arūpa-sphere (actions). 579. Which phenomena are indeterminate? At the time when one develops an arūpa-sphere jhāna, which is functional, neither wholesome nor unwholesome, nor a result of kamma, a pleasant abiding in this very life, by completely transcending perceptions of form, by the disappearance of perceptions of sensory impingement, by not attending to perceptions of diversity, accompanied by the perception of the infinitude of space, and by the abandonment of pleasure... one enters and abides in the fourth jhāna. At that time, contact arises... non-distraction arises... these phenomena are indeterminate. 580. Which phenomena are indeterminate? At the time when one develops an arūpa-sphere jhāna, which is functional, neither wholesome nor unwholesome, nor a result of kamma, a pleasant abiding in this very life, by completely transcending the infinitude of space, accompanied by the perception of the infinitude of consciousness, and by the abandonment of pleasure... one enters and abides in the fourth jhāna. At that time, contact arises... non-distraction arises... these phenomena are indeterminate. 581. Which phenomena are indeterminate? At the time when one develops an arūpa-sphere jhāna, which is functional, neither wholesome nor unwholesome, nor a result of kamma, a pleasant abiding in this very life, by completely transcending the infinitude of consciousness, accompanied by the perception of nothingness, and by the abandonment of pleasure... one enters and abides in the fourth jhāna. At that time, contact arises... non-distraction arises... these phenomena are indeterminate. 2. Which phenomena are indeterminate? At what time one develops a formless realm jhāna, which is functional, neither wholesome nor unwholesome, nor a karmic result, a pleasant abiding in this very life, completely transcending the dimension of nothingness, associated with the perception of the dimension of neither perception nor non-perception, and by the abandoning of pleasure… (etc.)… having entered and abides in the fourth jhāna, at that time, contact is… (etc.)… non-distraction is… (etc.)… these phenomena are indeterminate… (etc.)… non-greed is an indeterminate root… (etc.)… non-ill-will is an indeterminate root… (etc.)… non-delusion is an indeterminate root… (etc.)… these phenomena are indeterminate.
