Thus indeed, the Venerable Elder Sovaṇṇakiṅkaṇiya spoke these verses. The ninth Apadāna of the Elder Sovaṇṇakiṅkaṇiya. 10. The Apadāna of the Elder Soṇṇakontarika 157. The Buddha, to be contemplated by mind, self-controlled, composed; moving on the noble path, delighting in the calming of the mind. 158. The Fully Awakened One, crossed over the flood, the meditator, the sage delighting in meditation; having attained the state of being near, shining like the petal of a blue water-lily. 159. Taking water in a gourd, I approached the foremost Buddha; having washed the Buddha's feet, I gave the gourd. 160. And the Fully Awakened One commanded, named Padumuttara; ‘With this, having drawn water, place it at my feet.’ 161. Saying ‘So be it,’ I assented, and out of reverence for the Teacher; having drawn water with the gourd, I approached the foremost Buddha. 162. The Great Hero rejoiced, cooling my mind; ‘By this gift of a gourd, saṅk May it be little for you. 163. For fifteen aeons, I rejoiced in the world of devas; Thirty times a king, A Wheel-turning monarch I became. 164. By day or by night, As I walk or stand; Holding a golden staff, It stands before me. 165. Having given a gourd to the Buddha, I obtained a golden staff; Even a small deed done, Becomes abundant for such ones. 166. A hundred thousand aeons ago, When I gave that gourd; I know no bad destination, This is the fruit of the gourd. 167. My defilements are burnt... ...I dwell without taints. 168. Welcome indeed it was for me... ...the Buddha's teaching has been done. 169. The four analytical knowledges... ...the Buddha's teaching has been done. Thus indeed, the Venerable Soṇṇakontarika Thera uttered these verses. The tenth Apadāna of Soṇṇakontarika Thera. The forty-third chapter, Sakiṃsammajjaka. Its summary – The Elder Sakiṃsammajjaka, Ekadussī, Ekāsanī; Kadambakoraṇḍakado, And Ghatassavanika. Sucintika, Kiṅkaṇika, And Soṇṇakontarika; Herein are one hundred and seventy-one verses.
