“Your face and eyes are serene, the state of a sage is seen; Have you attained the deathless, the imperishable state of Nibbāna? 294. You have come in a beautiful manner, as if made of imperturbability; You are tamed, like one tamed by taming, you are peaceful, brahmin. 295. The deathless has been attained by me, the remover of the dart of sorrow; May you also attain it. ...you have attained [it]! Let us go to the Buddha's presence. 296. "Excellent!" he assented, my well-trained companion. Taking hand in hand, he approached your presence. 297. Both of us will go forth, Son of the Sakyans, in your presence. Having resorted to your teaching, we shall dwell without defilements. 298. Kolita is supreme in psychic power, I am one who has gone beyond in wisdom. Both of us, having become one, shall adorn the teaching. 299. With unresolved intentions, I wandered in wrong paths. Having resorted to seeing you, my intention is fulfilled. 300. Established on the earth, trees blossom in due season. Divine fragrances spread, pleasing all beings. 301. Just so, I, Great Hero, Son of the Sakyans, greatly renowned, having established myself in your teaching, shall blossom in due season. 302. Seeking the flower of liberation, which frees from the cycle of existence, by gaining the flower of liberation, I shall please all beings. 303. As far as the Buddha-field extends, except for the Great Sage, there is none equal in wisdom to your son, the Seer. 304. Your disciples are well-disciplined, and your assembly is well-trained. Tamed by the highest taming, they always surround you. 305. Meditators, delighting in meditation, wise, with peaceful minds, composed, sages, endowed with sagely conduct, they always surround you. 306. Of few wishes, astute, wise, taking little food, not greedy, content with gain or loss, they always surround you. 307. Forest dwellers, delighting in ascetic practices, meditators, with coarse robes, delighting in solitude, wise, they always surround you. 308. Those on the path and those established in the fruit, learners, endowed with the fruit, aspiring to the highest goal, they always surround you. 309. Stream-enterers, pure, and those who are once-returners, non-returners and Arahants, they always surround you. 310. Skilled in the foundations of mindfulness, delighting in the development of the factors of awakening, all your many disciples, they always surround you. 311. Skilled in the bases of psychic power, in concentration... devoted to meditation; engaged in right endeavors, they always surround you. 312. Possessing the three knowledges and six supernormal powers, having reached the perfection of psychic power; having attained the perfection of wisdom, they always surround you. 313. Such, Great Hero, are your well-trained disciples; unassailable, of fierce energy, they always surround you. 314. Surrounded by these disciples, self-controlled ascetics; like a fearless king of beasts, you shine like the king of owls. 315. Established on the earth, the trees grow; they reach abundance, and they yield fruit. 316. You are like the earth, Sakyan son, greatly renowned; established in your teaching, they obtain the fruit of immortality. 317. The Sindhu and Sarasvati, and the Candabhāgā rivers; the Ganga and Yamuna, and also the Sarabhu and Mahi. 318. As these flow, the ocean receives them; they abandon their former names, and are known simply as the ocean. 319. Just so, these four castes, having gone forth in your presence; abandon their former names, and are known as sons of the Buddha. 320. Just as the stainless moon, moving in the sky, all the star clusters in the world, it outshines with its radiance. 321. Just so, Great Hero, surrounded by gods and humans; surpassing all of them, you always shine. 322. Waves arising in the deep, do not pass beyond the shore; they all touch the shore, and are shattered and scattered. 323. Just so, the sectarians in the world, many people of various views; wishing to debate the Dhamma, do not overcome that sage. 324. And if they reach you, O Seer, with their counter-arguments; having come to your presence, they become shattered. 325. Just as lotuses born in water, many water lilies and mandalaka flowers; they are smeared by water, and by mud and mire. 326. Just so, many beings, born in the world, grow; afflicted by lust and hatred, like lotuses in the mud. Just as a lotus, born of water, grows in the midst of water; It is not stained by water, for it is pure, like a filament. 328. Just so, you, Great Hero, Great Sage, born in the world; Are not stained by the world, like a lotus by water. 329. Just as in the pleasant month, many water-born flowers bloom; They do not go beyond that month, that is their time for blooming. 330. Just so, you, Great Hero, have bloomed with liberation; They do not transgress the teaching, like water-born lotuses. 331. The king of sala trees, in full bloom, emits a divine fragrance; Surrounded by other sala trees, it shines like a king of sala trees. 332. Just so, you, Great Hero, have bloomed with Buddha-knowledge; Surrounded by the Sangha of monks, you shine like a king of sala trees. 333. Just as the snowy mountain, Himavā, is a medicine for all beings; A dwelling for nāgas, asuras, and also for devas. 334. Just so, you, Great Hero, are like a medicine for beings; The three-knowledge holders, the six-supernormal-knowledge holders, and those who have reached the perfection of psychic power. 335. Instructed by you, Great Hero, by you, the compassionate one; They delight in the joy of Dhamma, they dwell in your teaching. 336. Just as the king of beasts, the lion, emerging from its lair; Looks around in the four directions, and roars three times. 337. All deer are terrified, when the king of beasts roars; Indeed, this one, born of a noble lineage, always frightens the animals. 338. When you roar, Great Hero, the earth trembles; Those who are capable of awakening, awaken, the hosts of Māra are terrified. 339. All sectarians are terrified, when you roar, Great Sage; Like a scattered flock of crows, like deer in a deer park. 340. Whoever are leaders in the world, and are called teachers; They teach to the assembly a Dhamma that has come down through tradition. 341. Not so, you, Great Hero, teach the Dhamma to beings; Having yourself awakened to the truths, only that which pertains to awakening. 342. Knowing their inclinations and latent tendencies, the strength and weakness of their faculties; Having understood who is capable and incapable, you roar like a great cloud. From world-system's ends, The assembly would be seated; With various views pondering, To cut off doubt concerning that. Knowing the minds of all, The sage, skilled in similes; Speaking just one question, You cut off the doubt of beings. By those like Upatissa, The earth would be filled; All of them with joined palms, Would praise the world's leader. Or praising for an eon, They would praise with various descriptions; They would not be able to measure, The Tathāgata is immeasurable. According to my own strength, The Conqueror has been praised by me; Even praising for crores of eons, They would praise in just this way. If indeed any deva, Or human, well-trained; Should attempt to measure, He would only meet with frustration. Having established myself in your teaching, O Sakyan son, greatly renowned; Having gone to the perfection of wisdom, I dwell without defilements. I crush the sectarians, I uphold the Conqueror's teaching; Today I am the General of the Dhamma, In the teaching of the Sakyan son. Immeasurable deeds done, Have shown their fruit to me here; Like a well-shot arrow, I have burned up my defilements. Whatever human being a burden, Should always carry on his head; He would be afflicted by the burden, Thus laden with burdens. Burning with the three fires, I wandered in existences; Laden with the burden of existence, Like one made to carry a mountain. And my burden has been laid down, Existences have been uprooted by me; All that was to be done has been done, In the teaching of the Sakyan son. As far as the Buddha-field extends, Except for the Sakyan Bull; I am foremost in wisdom, One equal to me is not found. Highly skilled in concentration, Gone to the perfection of psychic power; And if I wish today, I can create a thousand (forms). Of the gradual attainments, The great sage is master; He taught the teaching to me. , cessation is my bed. 358. My divine eye is purified, I am skilled in concentration; Devoted to right exertions, Delighting in the development of the enlightenment factors. 359. All that a disciple should attain, All that has been done by me; Except for the Lord of the world, No one is equal to me. 360. Skilled in attainments, Quick to gain absorptions and liberations; Delighting in the development of the enlightenment factors, I have reached the perfection of a disciple's qualities. 361. With the qualities of a disciple, With a mind purified by wisdom, My mind, gathered by faith, Is always with my fellow practitioners. 362. Like a snake with its venom removed, Like a bull with its horns cut off; With pride and arrogance cast aside, I approach the Sangha with reverence. 363. If wisdom were to have a form, Even the earth would not be equal to mine; This is the fruit of praising the knowledge Of the Anomadassin, the Blessed One. 364. The Dhamma-wheel set in motion By the Sakyan son, the Such-one; I follow it rightly, This is the fruit of praising knowledge. 365. May no evil-wisher, Lazy, of weak energy, Of little learning, disrespectful, Ever be associated with me anywhere. 366. But one who is learned and wise, Well-established in virtues; Devoted to mental tranquility, May he even stand on my head. 367. I tell you, good sirs, As many as are gathered here; Be of few wishes, contented, Meditators, always delighting in meditation. 368. Whom I first saw,
