One is corrupt in virtue concerning higher virtue, one is corrupt in conduct concerning higher conduct, one is corrupt in view concerning extreme view – These three monks, bhikkhus, if the Sangha wishes, it may carry out an act of expulsion. And further, bhikkhus, for three other monks, if the Sangha wishes, it may carry out an act of expulsion. One speaks dispraise of the Buddha, one speaks dispraise of the Dhamma, one speaks dispraise of the Sangha – These three monks, bhikkhus, if the Sangha wishes, it may carry out an act of expulsion. And further, bhikkhus, for three other monks, if the Sangha wishes, it may carry out an act of expulsion. One is endowed with bodily mischief, one is endowed with verbal mischief, one is endowed with bodily and verbal mischief – These three monks, bhikkhus, if the Sangha wishes, it may carry out an act of expulsion. And further, bhikkhus, for three other monks, if the Sangha wishes, it may carry out an act of expulsion. One is endowed with bodily misconduct, one is endowed with verbal misconduct, one is endowed with bodily and verbal misconduct – These three monks, bhikkhus, if the Sangha wishes, it may carry out an act of expulsion. And further, bhikkhus, for three other monks, if the Sangha wishes, it may carry out an act of expulsion. One is endowed with bodily harm, one is endowed with verbal harm, one is endowed with bodily and verbal harm – These three monks, bhikkhus, if the Sangha wishes, it may carry out an act of expulsion. should perform the act. Those monks who were of few wishes… (etc.)… they complained, they grumbled, they criticized – "How can these monks Assaji and Punabbasu, on whom the Sangha has performed the act of banishment, ... who, having been disciplined by an act, will not behave properly, will not humble themselves, will not make amends; will not ask forgiveness from the bhikkhus, will revile them, will abuse them; will act out of desire, will act out of hatred, will act out of delusion, will act out of fear; will even depart, will even wander away.’’ Then those bhikkhus reported this matter to the Blessed One. He obstructs the Uposatha of a normal monk, he obstructs the Pavāraṇā, he makes a matter for rebuke, he raises a charge, he makes an opportunity for accusation, he accuses, he reminds, he causes monks to be involved – Monks, for a monk endowed with these eight factors, the expulsion action should not be revoked. He does not obstruct the Uposatha of a normal monk... he does not establish the Uposatha, he does not establish the Pavāraṇā, he does not make a statement, he does not initiate an admonition, he does not ask for an opportunity, he does not censure, he does not remind, he does not associate with bhikkhus – with these eight factors, bhikkhus, the act of expulsion for a bhikkhu should be revoked. The eighteen factors for the revocation of the act of expulsion are finished. 32. ‘‘And thus, bhikkhus, it should be revoked. That bhikkhu, bhikkhus, who has been subjected to the act of expulsion, should approach the Saṅgha, arrange his upper robe over one shoulder, bow at the feet of the elder bhikkhus, sit down on his haunches, raise his hands in añjali, and say this: ‘Venerable sirs, I, who was subjected to the act of expulsion by the Saṅgha, am behaving properly, I am shedding my hair, I am behaving in accordance with the rule, I request the revocation of the act of expulsion.’ A second time he should request.
