This is the thirty-eighth chapter on cultivating merits. This chapter explains the faults of the vessel for the extraordinary Bodhicitta. In this regard, the text says: Entering the Lesser Vehicle, considering oneself of low intelligence, hearing little but being conceited, being dissolute with defiled words, lacking confidence, enthusiasm, and faith, being a great vessel but biased towards one's own side, being bound by stinginess without hesitation even when cut off. For these people, the meaning of the extraordinary is not explained. Even if explained, the mind stream cannot be liberated. The complete teachings of the supreme king of vehicles, the meaning of Atiyoga, are not taught. This is the thirty-ninth chapter on the faults of the vessel for the extraordinary Bodhicitta. Now, this chapter will explain how a disciple should rely on a good vessel, using eight uncommon reasons. The text says: When an elephant carries a load that it can bear, its strength is not equal to that of ordinary animals. This strength is also uncommon. When a snow lion roars, its roar is not equal to that of ordinary clawed animals. This roar is also uncommon. When the waves of the great ocean are seen, they are not equal to the waves of ordinary puddles. These waves are also uncommon. When one reaches the summit of Mount Meru, its height is not equal to that of ordinary hills. This summit is also uncommon. When the clearly visible sun and moon are seen, their light is not equal to that of ordinary planets and stars. This clear light is also uncommon. When a great Garuda is seen soaring through the sky, its speed is not equal to that of ordinary birds. This strength is also uncommon. When the depth of the Vajrayana is seen, its depth is not equal to that of other vehicles. This depth is also uncommon. A scholar who has trained his mind and someone who is conceited despite hearing little, their actions for the benefit of beings are not equal. This supreme action is also uncommon. Extraordinary is complete. Insert here the fifteenth chapter on the source of life.
