The great Fifth Dalai Lama, the sovereign of the victorious ones, the lotus-holder, spoke a verse summarizing the essential points of the three vows. I will now explain its meaning briefly. Among the three—the Pratimoksha, the Bodhisattva, and the Mantra vows—the first is: \"Possessing the wondrous, pure discipline of liberation.\" This means that the Teacher, the Bhagavan, possesses wondrous and marvelous qualities that are difficult to find in the world, immeasurable virtues; and so do the noble Arhats who follow him. Their liberation is utterly pure, as their body, speech, and mind are not stained by even the slightest misdeed, and they are completely freed from all the faults of samsara. To follow them is precisely the discipline of the Pratimoksha. In the rite of the vows, it is also said: \"Like the lion king, the chief one, I will follow his renunciation, follow his practice, follow his conduct.\" And: \"Just as the Arhats of the past abandoned killing,\" and so on. Although many things are said about what to abandon and what to adopt in such discipline, in essence, it all comes down to abandoning the seven non-virtuous actions that arise from body and speech." 与此相反,诸佛及菩萨,唯以利他为重,且尽轮回际利益有情相续不断,故时间长久;以虚空所遍之有情为对境,故范围广大;且令彼等皆安住于一切相智之果位,故意义重大;即使于学道位,亦需舍弃头颅等难行之处,然仍以勇猛心披甲,一心一意利益他众,故其事业", "english_translation": "If it is not accompanied by a perfectly pure intention of renunciation, then mere fear of suffering and wishing for happiness is just a reflection of the Pratimoksha. Therefore, this mind of renunciation, which is the essence of the vows, is crucial. Secondly: \"Having the great courage to practice the vast conduct of the Bodhisattvas.\" This means that even those who abide in the state of noble Hearers and Solitary Realizers primarily focus on their own temporary benefit, so their activity is small. In contrast, the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas are solely dedicated to the benefit of others. Moreover, their activity is long-lasting, as they continuously work for the welfare of beings as long as samsara exists; it is vast, as it is directed towards beings as vast as space; and it is meaningful, as they lead all beings to the state of omniscience. Even on the path of learning, they take up the armor of courage in difficult situations such as giving away their head, and wholeheartedly dedicate themselves to benefiting others." } ] ============================================================

is very great. To study in such a state is called a Bodhisattva or a son of the Victorious One. Although the Hearers and Solitary Realizers are also sons of the Victorious One born from the Buddha's teachings, the actual sons of the Victorious One are the Bodhisattvas, because they do not cut off the lineage of the Buddha, and they hold the treasury of the sacred Dharma, and for the sake of benefiting sentient beings in samsara, they bear the burden of the Buddha's deeds. The essence of the Bodhisattva vow is altruism, that is, if both altruism of compassion and wisdom aiming at perfect enlightenment are lacking, one cannot become a Bodhisattva. Temporary compassion and aiming at perfect enlightenment for oneself are also found in the Hinayana teachings. Therefore, the mind that desires to attain Buddhahood for the sake of others is the aspiration Bodhicitta, and the vow to accumulate vast collections of merit for this purpose is the action Bodhicitta. Although there are many such distinctions, they are all included in these two. The third is: practice the yoga of the two stages of supreme bliss and emptiness. That is, the great bliss that never changes is inseparable from emptiness that possesses all supreme aspects, which is called the union of ཨེ་ཝཾ (Tibetan, Sanskrit Devanagari, Sanskrit Romanization, Chinese literal meaning). As it is said: The vows of all Buddhas are: ཨེ་ཝཾ (Tibetan, Sanskrit Devanagari, Sanskrit Romanization, Chinese literal meaning) is perfectly established. Thus, ཨེ་ (Tibetan, Sanskrit Devanagari, Sanskrit Romanization, Chinese literal meaning) is the emptiness of the Dharmadhatu, and the letter ཝཾ (Tibetan, Sanskrit Devanagari, Sanskrit Romanization, Chinese literal meaning) is the non-dual wisdom of great bliss, which is also the essence of the mantra vow and also the view. Therefore, after introducing that view, when practicing with meditation, relying on the generation stage to prevent the conceptual clinging to ordinary appearances, and relying on the completion stage to prevent the conceptual clinging to pride and divine pride, this is the main practice of the mantra vow. In short, the prevention of conceptual clinging of the mind gathers the essence of the mantra vow here. If one possesses this essence, then there is nothing to be accepted or rejected in the actions of body and speech, and no matter what one does, it is impossible to violate the three vows. Therefore, the essence of individual liberation is renunciation, the essence of the Bodhisattva vow is altruism, and the essence of the mantra vow is pure appearance. May we meet the teachings of Tsongkhapa, who possesses these three essentials. May the holy one who protects the three vows like his eyes be able to
