Collected Teachings of Master Tsongkhapa JTs6 *The Tale of the Extremely Secret, Marvelous, and Wonderful Deeds of Je Tsongkhapa* 1-6-1a *The Tale of the Extremely Secret, Marvelous, and Wonderful Deeds of Je Tsongkhapa* 1-6-1b Venerable Sir, what are the special qualities of the biography of the all-knowing master of Dharma, the glorious Losang Drakpa (Tibetan: བློ་བཟང་གྲགས་པ།, meaning 'Wise Fame')? The Venerable replied: 'This biography, the great deeds of courageous activity, the extremely secret Dharma even more secret than secrets, the tale of marvelous wonders, is as follows: The aspects of mantra and characteristics, as a means for one individual to attain Buddhahood, established with a complete support, is the main point of an excellent biography. For those endowed with good fortune, this tale of increasing marvelous and wonderful virtues is as follows: This great hero of excellent courage, in the past, was repeatedly a great vehicle's virtuous spiritual friend by the Venerable Manjushri. He also attained the fearlessness to speak unhindered on the topics of inner and outer reasoning, and also mastered the five superknowledges. Similarly, in the presence of the Tathagata Ratnaśikhin (Jewel Crest), the Venerable One and many attendants went. 1-6-2a At that time, the Tathagata Ratnaśikhin praised him greatly, saying, 'Without regard for body or life, you will spread the pure view and the mantras in the impure realms, and you will quickly attain perfect enlightenment.' At that time, this great hero arose in the midst of the ocean of attendants and made the aspiration: 'May I be able to spread the pure view and the mantras in the impure realms, without regard for body or life!' Immediately, the Tathagata Ratnaśikhin and the bodhisattvas also made aspirations. By the power of that Tathagata, all the Buddhas of the ten directions also thought of him and acted as before. All the Tathagatas said in one voice, 'This is excellent courage!' At that time, this great hero of excellent courage was prophesied to attain Buddhahood as the Tathagata Simhanada (Lion's Roar) in a pure land called 'Adorned with Various Wonders' in the northeast direction, beyond countless Buddhafields. From then on... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the pure lands, extensively propagate mantras, and through various adornments, countless times manifest the enlightened activities of all Buddhas. Moreover, in boundless realms, with a single moment's power, amplify it greatly. The current state of realization, if measured according to the characteristic vehicle, can be said to be the beginning of engaging in benefiting beings.' Then, what is the measure of that Tathagata's body? And what is the extent of the constant radiance?' Answer: 'The constant body is one Yojana (Sanskrit: Yojana, an ancient Indian unit of length). The body color is blue-green. The right hand is in the teaching mudra, and the left hand in the meditation mudra holds a bowl filled with nectar. In the center of the nectar, there is a four-sided stupa, more excellent than the color of the nectar, and one '欸' (Tibetan: ཨེ,seed syllable, Sanskrit Devanagari: ऐ,Sanskrit Romanization: ai, literal Chinese meaning: unborn) high. Radiating various lights, the color is the same as the nectar. In that Tathagata's land, upon seeing the stupa, beings of superior faculties will instantly realize the mantra related to pure view in their own continuum and manifest nectar. For beings of intermediate and inferior faculties, the mantra related to pure view will be taught through sound.' 'The retinue are all enlightened through pure view.' Then, what causes must one accumulate to be born in such a land?' Answer: 'Without seeking gain or honor, abandoning unsuitable vessels, those with diligence, faith, and wisdom, the superior faculties, should practice according to the stages of the secret mantra path, and also teach others, then they will be born in that land. For those of intermediate and inferior faculties, they should also respectfully understand the essential points of the generation and completion stages, without falling into the extremes of eternalism and nihilism. Respectfully practicing the indispensable branches such as vows and precepts, they will be born in that land.' Afterward, during a time of fervent prayer, repeatedly visualize such a form. Focus single-mindedly on accumulating merit and practice, and make strong aspirations many times. In such a state, the form of that Tathagata, slightly larger than two people, with the attire of a manifestation body, very complete, as previously described, appeared clearly for fifteen days. Pray fervently, and repeatedly make aspirations to be born in that land. Then, what causes must beings of superior faculties accumulate to be born in that land?' Then asked: 'Based on what was said before, the stages of the secret mantra path should be the main focus, and other mantras, etc., should also...' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
