Kauśika's Confession Sutra. Kauśika's Confession Sutra. Kauśika's Confession Sutra is present. In Sanskrit: Kauśika Prajñāpāramitāye Nama Sūtra. In Tibetan: Homage to the Great Mother Prajñāpāramitā. Thus have I heard: Once, the Blessed One was on Vulture Peak Mountain, turning the profound wheel of Dharma three times, and when the sons and mothers were seventeen complete, Kauśika requested the Blessed One, saying: Blessed One, in the definitive meaning of the Sutra, how do the three occurrences of ripening, increasing, and declining happen? The Blessed One taught: This profound Dharma of mine, upon hearing, is realized and ripens, and through practice and strong faith and reverence, it ripens. The meaning of the Teacher's teachings will increase in the North and South. Because of violating the meaning of the four instructions, secret mantras flourish but the Dharma does not ripen, and the essence of meaning will decline. The branches of the four meanings are: reading, holding, and spreading. A person who possesses the four meanings of the instructions should grasp, realize, be satisfied, and read. By grasping, one should read the words and meaning. By realizing, one should connect with the meaning. By holding, one should meditate on the meaning. By reading, one should spread emptiness. This will show the way to attain Buddhahood. By explaining the scriptures in three ways, by reading one's own cause, one will attain the meaning of liberation. In the case of the four patrons, at the time of writing and reading, the letters are emanations, so they will be blessed by the emanations. Because the letters are clear in meaning, one will realize the meaning of the other shore. Because the letters are the Dharani of non-forgetting, one will not lose memory. One will attain the Dharani of non-forgetting. Because one possesses the meaning of questioning, one will attain the fruit of liberation. If the paper is large and the letters are spacious, it is the same as upholding the teachings and accumulating merit. If the letters are large and the strokes are correct, it is the same as spreading the teachings and accumulating merit. If the letters are connected and the mixture is clear, the limbs will be free from defects and diseases. If the color of the letters and the eyes are clear, the faculty of sight will be free from defects. Because one possesses the meaning of reading, through connecting with the meaning of faith, one will ultimately attain the meaning of the fruit. If there is no excess or deficiency, and one reads with a pure mind, all sins will be purified. This is the power of purifying sins, and life and merit will increase. Therefore, everyone should read. This is what Kauśika asked, and the Blessed One taught. Kauśika's Confession Sutra is complete.

With pure breath unblemished, With mind uninterrupted, sound and voice are excellent, By reading without impurity, It is equal to turning the profound wheel. Having bathed, purified food, removing faults, Prostrations, offerings, reverence, and respect, Do not interrupt with the words of others, It is equal to serving a million Buddhas. If the patron is extremely lacking in faith, Even if not pleased with food and wealth, But having brought the Buddha's words to the end, One will attain the qualities of the Buddha. Do not engage in cutting, training, or ransoming. Kauśika asked: "Venerable One, did you not say that this sutra can be ransomed?" The Venerable One replied: "Kauśika, it is not in all ways everything, but if one possesses four kinds of abandonment, then it can be ransomed." What are the four? Abandoning the thought of wealth, one should know it as a place to offer to the Three Jewels. Abandoning the thought of value, one should satisfy others. Abandoning pride and fame, one should possess faith. Abandoning the thought of good and bad, one should ransom it from a place of distress. This profound teaching of mine, Others cannot destroy it, Only one who is not me but like me can destroy it. A monk without discipline, A pandita without vows, And the three who mainly accumulate bad karma, It is impossible for all beings to not understand. Giving, gathering, and selling, Writing and giving for profit, Not looking at the ripening, doing evil for profit, Gathering with deceit for fame. Reading for the sake of averting, Holding for the sake of committing sins, Understanding for the sake of deliberation, Cherishing and protecting the differences of cherished wealth. Abandoning from the depths of the mind, one will abandon, If held as wealth, one will be condemned, Destroyed by the collection of deceit and other sins. Turning good and bad upside down becomes slander, If sold, one will be born in the Vajra Hell. Giving and gathering are like water of wrath, Cutting and training are, Born in a place where hells are gathered and destroyed. Engaging in buying and selling and giving, Five hundred tongues plowed by great yaks. Holding onto good and bad, excess and deficiency, faults, The tongue is stretched by iron chains. Mixed with songs and other false speech, One dwells for a long time in the great preta realm. Damaging the breath, tormented by the breath, Abandoning the end of the word and taking the beginning, Quickly dragged into the rotten swamp, Quickly and for a long time turning the pages, Violently blowing towards the charnel ground mountain.
