At one time, the Blessed One was in the great and excellent place called Thorny Forest in the country of Kausambi, together with a great Sangha of five hundred monks and a great many Bodhisattvas, great beings. At that time, in the great city of Kausambi, there lived a householder named Chandra Bhadra, whose senses were calmed, whose mind was calmed, who had many sons and daughters, and who was endowed with many relatives. He went to where the Blessed One was, and having arrived, he bowed his head at the feet of the Blessed One, circumambulated him hundreds of thousands of times, and sat down on one side. Having sat down on one side, the householder Chandra Bhadra said to the Blessed One: "If the Blessed One would grant me the opportunity to ask and to receive a prophecy, I would like to ask the Blessed One, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Awakened One, about a few things."
