Collection of Instructions by Master Kunga Yeshe Gyatso JKYG7: The Practice Method of Glorious Dorje Nakpo Chenpo Gurgyi Gonpo, Lacham Dral and Retinue. 2-388 The Practice Method of Glorious Dorje Nakpo Chenpo Gurgyi Gonpo, Lacham Dral and Retinue. The Practice Method of Glorious Dorje Nakpo Chenpo Gurgyi Gonpo, Lacham Dral and Retinue. Om Svasti! I prostrate with utmost reverence to the Lama and Heruka. I will briefly explain the essential instructions for the practice of Nakpo Chenpo Lacham Dral. In general, there are two types of practice: individual practice and combined practice. The first, individual practice, is further divided into three types: individual practice of the Father, individual practice of the Mother, and individual practice of the Retinue. The first is the individual practice of Gur Gonpo Father. This is further divided into four types: practicing as Kado, practicing as Tsokdak, practicing as Nodjin, and practicing as Shinje. The first is to visualize oneself as the Yidam and in front of oneself, visualize Gonpo as a fierce protector and practice. The second is to visualize oneself as Gonpo and practice. The third is that either of the above two methods can be used, but it is especially praised for accomplishing peaceful activities. The fourth is that either of the above two methods can be used, but it is especially praised for accomplishing wrathful activities, and practice in that way. The second is that for Gur Gonpo who has Kanon, one does not rely on the Mother. For Gur Gonpo who has Kanyen retinue, one does not rely on the retinue, but practices the Lhamo Mother alone. This is further divided into peaceful practice and wrathful practice. The first is to practice with Ekajati as Kanon. 2-389 This is further divided into generating in the womb of Yumchen Ekajati, which is an extremely peaceful practice; generating in the heart, which is a slightly wrathful practice. The second is to practice Palden Lhamo without relying on Yumchen Ekajati Kanon. The third is the individual practice of the Retinue. For those who have Lacham Dral Kanon, one does not rely on Lacham Dral but practices the Retinue alone. That is, the eight great gods, the eight great Nagas, the eight great planets, the twenty-eight constellations, the eight field protectors, the eight Shinje, the eight destroyers, the eight Mamo, etc. In short, practicing all the eight classes of gods and demons of existence, this is the common individual practice of the Retinue. The uncommon individual practice of the Retinue is that for those who have Lacham Dral Kanon, one does not rely on Lacham Dral, but individually practices the outer Karma Gonpo - the naked one holding a copper knife, the inner Karma practitioner - the black-cloaked one holding a copper knife, the secret Karma practitioners - Putra siblings, etc. The second is the combined practice of Lacham Dral. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The four combined practices are: the combined practice of the main deity and retinue, the combined practice of siblings, the combined practice of brothers and sisters, and the combined practice of the main deity's mandala. The first is the practice of Mahakala (the Protector) and Lhamo (the Goddess) in the form of a worldly couple. The second is the practice of Mahakala and Lhamo as worldly siblings. The third is the practice of Lhamo as the executor of the extremely wrathful Mahakala's commands. The fourth is the practice of the three deities, brother and sisters, surrounded by common and uncommon retinues. This is further divided into the combined practice of the common main deity and retinue, and the combined practice of the uncommon main deity. Moreover, compared to solitary practice, combined practice is more profound, and among combined practices, the latter is more profound than the former. Therefore, among the three deities, brother and sisters, the practice surrounded by the Yaksha couple and their son and two daughters is considered extremely profound. Therefore, one can enter the recitation practice through the door of the combined practice of the eight deities. Before entering retreat, one should offer extensive prayers and confessions to Nagpo Chenpo (Great Black One), perform astrological divination, hold a joyful evening ceremony, and cast out obstacles with Torma (sacrificial cake). Establish boundaries, and if you know how and are able to, transform the four boundaries into the Four Great Kings, offer Torma, and entrust them with the task of guarding against obstacles. Inside the practice room, display images of the Yidam (tutelary deity) and Dharma protectors in front of you, and arrange offerings and Torma according to the ritual. Spend one or two weeks, or as much as you are able, supplementing the recitation of the Yidam. Then enter the actual recitation of Mahakala. At the beginning of each session, first perform the self-generation ritual of the Yidam, which can be elaborate or simple according to your ability, and recite some mantras. Then, visualize the complete assembly of the eight deities, Mahakala and his siblings, and bless them according to the Torma ritual. After that, perform a brief prayer and praise, and begin reciting the mantra of Mahakala. At the end of the session, replenish the Torma and offer it. Perform the usual prayers, praises, and entrustment of activities. Complete any omissions in the recitation with the Hundred Syllable Mantra, and ask for forgiveness for any incomplete parts. Instead of dismissing the deities, offer Supratistha (Sanskrit, firm abiding) to request the deities to remain steadfast. Dedicate the merit to enlightenment, and then enter retreat. The visualization for the recitation is: visualize yourself as the Yidam, and in front of you, visualize the assembly of the eight deities, Mahakala and his retinue, abiding in the form of carrying out commands. In your heart, on a sun disc, there is a five-pronged Vajra (diamond scepter) with its tips pointing upwards. The central prong is hollow, and in the center of the hollow, on the sun disc, is a blue Hūṃ (藏文:ཧཱུྃ,梵文天城体:हुं,梵文罗马拟音:hūṃ,汉语字面意思:seed syllable). Surrounding it are the heart mantra and root mantra of Mahakala. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2-391
