A Commentary on the Essence of the Four Mudras A Commentary on the Essence of the Four Mudras A Commentary on the Essence of the Four Mudras exists. Om Swasti. The secret treasury of the hearts of all Buddhas, The co-emergent hidden in the ocean of tantras, Taking the jewel and bestowing it on the helpless beings, May the venerable lama protect me! This instruction called "The Essence of the Four Mudras," from which lineage does it originate? It is said that Dharmapala, born into a Brahmin family in the land of glorious Oddiyana, committed four sins in one session of meditation in the land of Odissa, and feeling remorse, relied on the feet of Master Jalandhara and received the essence of the instructions. Practicing for six months in the land of Kongkana, Vajrayogini showed her face directly, and having attained supreme accomplishment, he then wandered in various countries with the conduct of a madman. Judging by his external behavior, people called him Birupa, that is, one of evil nature. This great master passed it on to Teacher Byadali. He was a bird hunter. Relying on the virtuous friend Netso, he received the teachings of the Four Mudras by relying on Birupa. Meditating a little, when his mind was distracted by the work of hunting, he made images of birds from clay and tsampa, cut their throats and meditated. After some time, he attained supreme accomplishment, went to various cities, and demonstrated the ability to kill and revive birds, hence the name. This teacher gave the empowerment and the essence of the Four Mudras, these three verses, to a yogi named Asita Ghana, and had him meditate on them. Before long, all the signs manifested. Then, having trained the continuum with all the instructions, after some time, he said, "Ah Re!" As soon as he spoke, it is said that he also attained accomplishment. He passed it on to Ratigupta, he passed it on to Shantigupta, he passed it on to my lama. Among them, these three vajra verses are the essence of the definitive meaning of the tantras, and show the way of meditation in concise language. The first verse is a summary, the second verse explains in detail from the perspective of the nature of what is to be meditated on, and the third verse from the perspective of the realization of the stages of the path.

It has been widely narrated. The first part includes: a brief presentation of the actual path, and a presentation of uncommon causes and conditions. The first part is: the foot of the vase resides in water. Because water is exhausted, it is a vase. The vase is the body, called "water," the Kundas of Bodhicitta, called "foot," are four meanings, combined with the winds of the four elements. The meaning of "exhausting water" is: water is semen, exhausting the Bindu, that is, purified through practice. Therefore, the so-called vase refers to the accomplishment of the vase of the illusory deity. The second part is: also acting as a Guru, etc. There are three types of Guru: the author of nature, namely Bindu; the author of conditions, namely union; and the Vajra Guru who becomes the author through the blessings of other lineages. Their feet are the feet of the Guru. The person who dwells in this, namely the Vajra Acharya, constantly practices, diligently engages in the yoga of above and below, causing the winds to dissolve into Bindu, and striking the Bindu located in the heart, uniting the movement of wind and mind into one, thereby making wisdom firm. Because the blessings of the lineage are integrated, becoming an aid, through the Samadhi of inseparable bliss and emptiness of the power of yoga, and the power of the key instructions of the movement of wind and mind, gradually manifesting emptiness, subsequent emptiness, extreme emptiness, and all great emptiness. In this way, the Guru, that is, can manifest the state of the Great Vajradhara. The second part includes: narrating the expansion of the semen to be practiced, and narrating that Bindu is the author of bondage and liberation. The first part is: the so-called "ཨེ་ཝཾ་(Tibetan, Devanagari: एवं, Romanized Sanskrit: evaṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Thus)" and other letters. Where is it located? It is located in the heart of beings. How does it abide? The five winds of light abide in the sound of ཧཱུྃ(Tibetan, Devanagari: हुं, Romanized Sanskrit: hūṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Hum), because its essence is wind, so it is said to "emit sound." Narrating its nature is: saying the sound of the letter "ཨེ་ཝཾ་(Tibetan, Devanagari: एवं, Romanized Sanskrit: evaṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Thus)", the letter ཝཾ་(Tibetan, Devanagari: वं, Romanized Sanskrit: vaṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Vam) is the semen, dust, and mind as one, the letter ཨེ་(Tibetan, Devanagari: ए, Romanized Sanskrit: e, Literal Chinese meaning: E) is the wind of the five elements, their essence condensed into one state, is originally existing, is the original thing of the conventional. If there are six colors, how can it become the five elements? The blue-green that appears is due to the nature of the wind of the five realms.
