A Key to Practice: A Heartfelt Plea for Constant Guidance. A Key to Practice: A Heartfelt Plea for Constant Guidance. Om, may there be well-being for the beings) To the lama who is the actual Vajradhara, with unwavering longing, I respectfully pray for blessings. Please transform the minds of your disciples towards the Dharma. A wandering yogi of uncertain abode offers this heartfelt plea for constant guidance: Other than the sacred Dharma, is there another king of the future? Let the discerning ones judge. All the happiness of this life is a deceptive Dharma. Although it seems pleasing and entices the mind now, it will soon reveal its true nature. Attachment to desirable objects and enjoyments has been a bad habit since beginningless time, and now, due to constant familiarity, it is difficult to separate from. The mind is like a monkey, fickle and easily distracted. Do you not feel bound by the rope of bad karma? If you do not seize the opportunity for liberation now, there is a danger of falling into the abyss of the lower realms. In times of adversity, Dharma without practice is like an eloquent but unskilled warrior entering the battlefield. Do not be pleased with words, strive for practice. Like the example of bees and honey, and mice, the enjoyments you accumulate are consumed by others. Being deeply disgusted by meaninglessness, do not accumulate, but direct your efforts towards virtue. Even the farmer who toils for six months, upon seeing someone die without eating the harvest, understands that all work is difficult and its meaning is small. Do not be attached to worldly affairs, transform all your actions into Dharma. Looking at parents, siblings, and relatives, some have already passed away, and others are still going. Seeing impermanence and separation, the mind feels aversion. Consider whether this is also true for yourself. Beloved friends are like guests in a dream, while they are here, you do not know where they will go. Wealth is like autumn mist, it seems to stay for a long time, but it disappears in an instant. Power and enjoyment are like a summer rainbow, beautiful to the eye, but unreliable and cannot last. To engage in deceit, lies, and hypocrisy for such things is not wise, as the harm outweighs the benefit. Even the friends you trust and rely on now may suddenly turn into enemies. Since enemies and friends are impermanent, do not be biased, but subdue the constant enemy—afflictions. The children you have raised

When one's own power grows, one is disrespectful to one's kind parents, and because one sees many people as insignificant, one raises clever children who will surely be helpful when needed. If one is born as a human and delights in evil, after death one will be led away by the messengers of Yama, and will experience unbearable suffering for eons. When born in hell, what good is regret? When the body of flesh and bones is destroyed, the breath ceases, and the grief of relatives also collapses. Retinue and servants do not follow, one is separated from one's homeland. All food and wealth are abandoned, and one goes alone without help. The flower of youth is afflicted by the hail of old age, radiance fades, strength is lost, one becomes weary, and the mind is uneasy. Although one delights in desires, one has no ability to enjoy them. When one sees the prospect of going to the next life, the mind becomes extremely fearful. It is also rare to encounter the sacred Dharma after death. Since it is difficult to obtain a precious human body, if one does not strive for the sacred Dharma now, one's ultimate future will become very bleak. The wealth that has been accumulated will be divided by others. When one leaves behind the cherished body and life, servants, children, and horses will not follow, and only the empty name "So-and-so is dead" will remain. In the future, there will be no opportunity to see relatives, castles, estates, or wealth again. When wandering in the prison of the three lower realms, there is no refuge other than the Three Jewels. The plain filled with razors is very vast, and the forest of swords is dense and endless. All the mountains and rivers are blazing with flames, or threatened by cold, and one's own body cracks into hundreds and thousands of pieces. How can one not feel fear? Even hearing about it is frightening, and if one thinks about it, one cannot bear it. For a hundred years, there is not even the name of food or drink. If one eats, it ignites into flames and burns the entire body. If one thinks about these situations, one's flesh and bones will separate from fear. They eat each other, kill, bind, and beat. The suffering of animals, being used and helpless, when it falls upon one, is there a way to endure it? Now, while there is still a way to remedy it, strive diligently. When will it fall upon one, and to whom will one shift the blame for the misfortune? One has no choice but to bear one's own faults. Sinful friends are the welcomers to the lower realms, but one mistakenly believes them to be friends who bring happiness and joy. When one applies oneself to virtue, even an enemy is a lama; when one applies oneself to sin, one should regard them as messengers of Mara. If one does not practice the Dharma, one will become weary of impermanence and suffering.
