Collected Teachings of Tilopa TILO31: Clarifying the Condensed Meaning of the Five Stages Clarifying the Condensed Meaning of the Five Stages Composed by Naropa, 'Clarifying the Condensed Meaning of the Five Stages,' translated by Marpa Choskyi Lodrö. In Sanskrit: Pañcakrama Saṃgraha Prābhava. In Tibetan: Rimpa Nga Dupa Salwa. Homage to the feet of the glorious Lama! The secret of all Buddhas lies within the Five Stages. The essence of phenomena is the path, and also the sequence of the arising of the fruit. The reality of phenomena is twofold: the way of abiding of mind and body, gross, subtle, and extremely subtle, known as the common and undifferentiated stages. Sleep, dreams, meditative absorption, ordinary times, and the four aspects. The nature of the four chakras, the tips and bindus, are called mind. The key points of body, time, and place should be understood as four. Various memories and conceptual thoughts arise from the mind, therefore, consciousness is the basis for the aggregation of life force. Meditate on the mantra wheel in the heart center. By thoroughly understanding the basis, path, and fruit, the illusion of body isolation, mantra, and mind becomes manifest enlightenment, and one will understand the stages of union. With the wheel of letters of mantra, first on an eight-petaled lotus, in outer, inner, and secret ways, contemplate in a sequential manner. The outer layer is the sign of the wisdom vowels. In the middle are the consonants with skillful means. Abiding inwardly without duality. Meditate in order on the directions and intermediate directions. The way of combining the three self-natures. In the center is the bindu of the eye, the A (藏文:ཨ,梵文天城体:अ,梵文罗马拟音:a,汉语字面意思:无) combined with life force, which is the essence of all, expanding and contracting. The winds of the four elements, combining wind and mantra, practice the Vajra recitation. Arising, abiding, and dissolving are explained as such. Ordinary conceptual thoughts and habitual tendencies, visualize the mantra itself as the mind. By purifying the body, thoughts are purified. By purifying the wind, it becomes stainless. By purifying the wind, the conventional illusion of wisdom is made manifest. By realizing that very thing, one will attain union wisdom. Actions, activities, and collections of activities, are accomplished by the union of consciousness and wisdom. The objects of realization arise sequentially, the five wisdoms are experienced as a common cause. In a state of clear and blazing light, clairvoyance is attained from the limb winds. The collection of thoughts gradually decreases, and the antidote wisdom gradually increases. The stages of wisdom are found from within oneself, without differentiating between one and many. The initial experience is like a mirage, appearing with five rays of light. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
