Collection of Teachings by Master Tilopa The Great Seal Instructions Called 'Doha Treasure', composed by the Glorious Hermit. The Great Seal Instructions Called 'Doha Treasure', composed by the Glorious Hermit. The Great Seal Instructions Called 'Doha Treasure', composed by the Glorious Hermit. In Indian language: Dohakosa-nama-mahamudra-upadesha. In Tibetan language: The Great Seal Instructions Called 'Doha Treasure'. Homage to the Glorious Vajrayogini! Homage to the spontaneously born wisdom Dharmakaya Great Bliss! How things and non-things, appearance and emptiness, Cause and non-cause, moving and non-moving, All without exception are the nature of space, At all times never wavering. 'Space, space' though repeatedly spoken, Yet the essence of space is not established in any way. Existing and non-existing, neither existing nor non-existing, Beyond the realm of designation other than that. Thus, space, mind, and the nature of phenomena, There is not the slightest difference; The name 'difference' is merely an accidental designation, It is just a meaningless, false word. All phenomena are one's own mind, Other than mind, there is not even a particle of another phenomenon. Whoever realizes the mindlessness from the beginning, Attains the sacred intention of the Buddhas of the three times. It is widely known as the 'Dharmadhatu Zamatog'. That too is not a separate other phenomenon, It is the spontaneously born nature from the beginning. Its suchness cannot be shown, Because it is unspeakable, no one understands it. If there is an owner, there should be wealth; But since there is no owner from the beginning, what is there? If there is mind, all phenomena should exist; But without mind, who will realize a phenomenon? All appearances as mind and phenomena, If searched for, cannot be found, and the searcher is not there from the beginning. Non-existent, unarisen, unceasing in the three times, Its suchness, unchanging to another, Is the natural state of great bliss. Therefore, all appearances are Dharmakaya, All sentient beings are Buddhas themselves. All actions are inherently the realm of Dharma, Designated phenomena are like rabbit horns. Alas! The sun, free from clouds, its rays pervade everywhere, Yet to those without eyes, it appears as darkness. Though spontaneously born and pervading all, To the deluded, it is extremely distant. Beings, not realizing the absence of mind, Are tightly bound by the mind of designation. Like a madman possessed by a demon, Without control... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Like suffering pointlessly, being seized by the great demon of clinging to reality and conceptual thought, one merely suffers the pointless suffering of birth. Some are bound by the distinctions of intellect, leaving the master at home and seeking elsewhere. Some cling to reflections as reality, some abandon the root and prune the branches. No matter what they do, they do not realize they are being deceived. Alas! Though the deluded do not recognize it, I realize that it never moves from its own state. I have come to know the beginning and end of myself, and seeing myself, I remain alone, just myself. Looking at the one alone, one does not see the one, for seeing and seen are gone, and it is inexpressible. Who could understand the inexpressible? When the innate mind is trained, then I will realize it in the solitary places. A lion's milk is not for ordinary, inferior vessels. Just as in the forest, the lion's roar frightens all the small animals, but the lion cubs run with joy. By teaching this great bliss of primordial non-arising, the deluded and those with wrong views are frightened, but the fortunate rejoice and their hair stands on end. Alas! Do not be distracted, look at yourself with your own mind. If you realize your own nature, even the distracted mind will appear as Mahamudra (great seal). The signs are self-liberated, in the state of great bliss. All the happiness and suffering of dreams are without inherent existence when one is awake. Driven by thoughts of hope and fear, who would engage in thoughts of denial and affirmation? All the phenomena of samsara and nirvana, seeing their suchness, are without inherent existence. When the mind of hope and fear is exhausted, what need is there for effort in abandoning and adopting? All appearances and sounds are like illusions and mirages, like reflections, without substantial entities or signs. The mind that perceives illusions is like the sky, without beginning or end, without a center, and cannot be known by anyone. Just as various rivers such as the Ganges become one taste in the salty ocean, all the various conceptual minds and mental events should be known to become one taste in the Dharmadhatu (realm of phenomena). No matter how much one searches for the expanse of the sky, seeing the end and the middle is completely impossible. Likewise, searching for the mind and phenomena, one does not find even a particle of essence. Since the mind that searches is also not found, not seeing anything is itself seeing. Just as a crow flying from a ship circles around and returns to it, even if the desiring mind cuts off the traces of what is taught, --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
