Regarding the initial history of this: The great teacher Jampal Shenyen (Manjushri Friend), while teaching phonetics in the Sosa Ling charnel ground, even after three years, had only memorized six shlokas and felt discouraged. So, he cut off his tongue with a razor, hid the book of studies in a rock, thinking he had no karmic connection with the unexcelled secret mantra, and lay down to rest. One night at dawn in a dream, Jamyang (Manjushri) Dispelling the Darkness of Mind, riding on a lion, gave the practical instructions for the practice. Through practice, he became proficient in all the Dharma, especially in the sixty-four hundred thousand Ati Yogas, and also proficient in Klong Yangs, Father Tantra, Mother Tantra, and Son Tantra. Later, Padmasambhava of Oddiyana requested this teaching, and after practicing in the Black Ash Charnel Ground, attained accomplishment. After that, Vairotsana requested this teaching from him, and after practicing in Yang le shod, directly saw the deity. He became proficient in all the dharmas of samsara and nirvana, but could not find a place to propagate this teaching himself, so he buried the teaching in the earth. Or, as stated in the tantra, build a solitary retreat, prepare enough food for twenty-one days, and the time should be chosen on the eighth day of the month, when the stars are auspicious.
