Collection of Teachings by Master Tāranātha JT564: Sādhana of the Great Black Bhairava. 24-327 ༄༅། །Sādhana of the Great Black Bhairava. ༄༅། །Sādhana of the Great Black Bhairava. ༄༅། །In Indian language: Bhairava Mahākāla Sādhanam. In Tibetan language: Sādhana of the Great Black Bhairava. Homage to the venerable Great Black. The hero who conquers the four māras, the tamer of all the untamable, surrounded by a host of mamos, with a gathering of bhūtas and vetālas, the method of accomplishing that itself shall be explained. In a hero's battlefield, or in a charnel ground, sitting near a corpse seat, invoking the Great Black with the light of the seed syllable residing in the lotus of the heart, making offerings, and then dissolving it into oneself. Then, one should meditate on emptiness. Afterwards, in the center of a vajra tent, one should contemplate oneself as the sun, (ཧཱུྃ,hūṃ,Hum,seed syllable) as black as eye medicine. From that arises the Great Black, as black as summer rain clouds and darkness, with hair standing on end, a repulsive face, bared fangs, blood dripping from the mouth, fierce and extremely wrathful, with the body of a child, thick, short, and swollen, hanging down, dwarfish, possessing the five seals, adorned with unpleasant ornaments, the first two hands holding a vajra chopper and a skull cup with blood, the remaining right hands holding a sword and a trident, 24-328 standing in a right-extended posture on a rākṣasa (corpse?) seat, with a necklace of fifty dripping human heads, wearing a tiger skin lower garment, with light like the fire at the end of an aeon, making one forgetful as the best of the bhūta hosts, on his forehead is a bindu ( बिंदु,bindu, dot), on his throat is a severed head, and on his heart is the syllable (ཧཱུྃ,hūṃ,Hum,seed syllable). Invoking the Great Terrifier with his retinue from all charnel ground places, dissolving them into oneself, the left and right arms and hands, and the two thighs and feet, holding in order the black limb binders, the fierce one, the wrathful one, the intoxicated one, the skull-bearing one, the terrifying one, the joyful one, the eight terrifiers abiding in a playful posture, embracing the consorts perfectly.

Holding a curved knife and a skull cup. At the navel, heart, throat, crown of the head, between the eyebrows, and the secret place, Kāli (ཀཱ་ལི་,梵文天城体:काली,梵文罗马转写:kālī,literal meaning: the black one), Kapālinī (ཀཱ་པཱ་ལཱི་ནཱི་,梵文天城体:कापालिनी,梵文罗马转写:kapālinī,literal meaning: skull-bearer), Kulle (ཀུལླེ་,梵文天城体:कुल्ले,梵文罗马转写:kulle, literal meaning: Kulle), Kurukulle (ཀུ་རུ་ཀུལླེ་,梵文天城体:कुरुकुल्ले,梵文罗马转写:kurukulle, literal meaning: Kurukulle), Virodhinī (བི་རོ་དྷཱི་ནཱི་,梵文天城体:विरोधिनी,梵文罗马转写:virodhinī,literal meaning: obstructing), Vipracittī (བི་པྲ་ཙཏྟཱི་,梵文天城体:विप्रचित्ती,梵文罗马转写:vipracittī,literal meaning: scattered mind) and other goddesses' characteristics are complete, similar to the great terrifying ones. At the mouth, anus, navel, and crown of the head, holding a staff, holding a sword, the field owner, and the lord of the assembly, as well as holding a sword and a skull cup. Thus, one should meditate until the mind is stable. If the mind becomes discouraged, one should recite the mantra: Hūṃ Mahākālāya Namo Hūṃ Phat (ཧཱུཾ་མཧཱ་ཀཱ་ལཱ་ཡ་ན་མོ་ཧཱུཾ་ཕཊཿ). By reciting it one hundred thousand times, one will subdue all beings. By reciting it ten million times, the Great Black One himself will appear. Then, great fear will arise. Zombies and hundreds of thousands of rakshasas will surround you, shouting "Ha! Ha!" At that time, do not be afraid, and offer a large amount of blood and intoxicating offerings. When the terrifying one himself appears, the practitioner can write down what he desires. The practitioner says, "Please make me the Great Black One," and thus he will become the same as the Great Black One. He will accomplish all desires. // Oṃ Asudaṅgabheravaya Namaḥ, Bhiṣaṇabherava, Saṃharabhe, Rurubhe, Hebe, Krodhabhe, Unamadabhe, Kapālī, Kālai Namaḥ, Kapālinyai, Kullebe, Kurukullebe, Virodhinyai, Vipracittiyai, Ḍaha, Nibhe, Khadga, Nibhe, Sāye, Gana, Madra Svāhā. (Since the mantra's guidance marks and letters are unclear, even if there are errors, it is only provided as a reference.)// If one wishes to make offerings every day, then draw four doors on a square, with four lines and correct proportions, decorate with a net-like structure, railings, and a horse path, with eight short spears at the four corners, a vajra chain in the center, and on various eight-petaled lotuses, draw mandalas of three shapes, both mandalas having sharp points, fully equipped with flesh and bones, etc. This is a very terrifying mandala. In the center is a mandala of the sun.
