Collection of Teachings by Master Tāranātha JT534 Commentary on the Four Empowerments 24-229 ༄༅། །Commentary on the Four Empowerments ༄༅། །Commentary on the Four Empowerments ༄༅། །Oṃ Svasti. Here, some cling to either elaboration or non-elaboration, praising themselves and disparaging others out of attachment. Although the proponents of affirmation and negation are not the same, they have received unerring instructions on the essence of the Dharma. The meaning of the Four Empowerments as explained in the Hevajra Tantra: This wisdom is extremely subtle, like the center of the vajra sky. It is free from dust, bestows liberation, and is peaceful. You yourself are its father. The meaning of this is twofold: one is related to सहजात (sahaja, Co-emergent) bliss, and the other is related to सहजात (sahaja, Co-emergent) nature. Firstly, the wisdom of सहजात (sahaja, Co-emergent) bliss, which is obtained during the time of prajñā-jñāna, cannot be realized through examples, reasoning, or conceptual understanding. Therefore, it is extremely subtle. Its essence is free from all elaborations, or like the sky, which has no beginning or end. This wisdom is also free from the extremes of permanence and annihilation, and because it is infinite, its center is also non-existent. Therefore, it is free from beginning and end, like the center of the sky. Vajra means the wisdom of clear light, because it has great power to subdue what is to be abandoned, and afflictions cannot subdue it in return. Therefore, clear light is vajra. This wisdom is free from the dust of conceptualization, and by meditating on it, all signs are pacified, and it bestows the supreme liberation, which is to be attained. If asked from where this wisdom is shown, the answer is: it cannot be shown from elsewhere, it must be shown from oneself. That is, by focusing on the essential points of one's own body and mind, you yourself, the bliss-emptiness wisdom of melting bliss, are like the father who generates it. Here, the translation "Your father is yourself" is excellent. Secondly, the nature of mind abides in the wisdom of great bliss. This is extremely subtle because it is not realized through hearing, thinking, or mundane meditation, nor through the path of severance. The wisdom of the clear light of self-nature, whose essence never shows change, is therefore vajra, which is ultimate clear light. This is the essence of the Buddha, and its essence is inexpressible.

Therefore, it is the same as space. Here, the word "Maṇḍala" refers to both the center and the essence, not connected to space. Compared to other translations, it is better to connect it with the characteristics of the vajra, saying "The essence of the vajra is the same as space." The dustless, etc., are the same as before. The way one represents oneself is also like this: the mind appearing as the nature of melting bliss symbolizes that the nature of the mind abides in the nature of bliss. Moreover, melting bliss is not separate from the mind, therefore, the example representing one's own mind is just one's own mind itself. It is like saying that one's own father is oneself. Here, self-nature coemergent means that the essence of the mind manifests as bliss, but in reality, it is only in the supreme yoga's noble path. The constant one arises from the arising of the realization of the completion stage. The self-awareness of the mind has abided in bliss from the beginning. Although it is self-nature coemergent, it will not manifest until the noble path is obtained, therefore it is not called self-nature coemergent wisdom. Relying on self-blessing and the path of mudras, the wind dissolves into the central channel, and the coemergent joy arising from the melting of bodhicitta is called the wisdom of melting bliss coemergent. In reality, it exists from the arising of the realization of the completion stage until one does not attain Buddhahood. Symbolically, it also appears during the generation stage and the empowerment of cause. Ordinary people, although they have melting bliss, do not consider it wisdom. The wisdom of self-nature coemergent, the wisdom of self-arising simultaneous, and the wisdom of the fourth empowerment of ultimate meaning are all the same. The melting bliss that can truly symbolize it is called the conventional fourth wisdom. The melting bliss that cannot truly symbolize self-nature is the third wisdom. The wisdom of self-nature coemergent, whose power does not diminish and appears as the deity's body and unites with it, is the nature of the fourth wisdom. When empowering novice disciples, merely emptiness, and faith in the deity and bliss-emptiness, and merely explaining the meaning of the fourth wisdom, and introducing it based on the third empowerment, etc., are not contradictory. But the recognition of true wisdom will not exceed what was said above. In some rituals, through the meditation of Heshang, in the fourth empowerment
