Collection of Teachings by Tāranātha JT355: Commentary on the Four-Line Verse Commentary on the Four-Line Verse Homage to the Buddha! A brief explanation of the meaning of the four-line verse will be given. There are three parts to this: the actual verse with homage, the nature of the speaker, and the benefits of reciting the verse. The first part has four aspects: homage to the Tathāgata himself, homage to the place of his extraordinary deeds, homage to the place of his bodily conduct, and homage to the assembly of stupas. The first is "transformed into a body," etc., that is, the body of the Tathāgata, adorned with the thirty-two marks, etc., and many excellent marks. For the time being, considering the qualities of the form body, such as welcoming the lama, etc., it is a sign of possessing immeasurable accumulations of merit. As for "perfect Buddha," perfection has two meanings: when connected with the path, it means that the two accumulations of merit and wisdom are completely perfected; and through the power of this path, the purification of the two obscurations is also completely perfected. When connected with the result, it means that obscurations are completely purified and wisdom is completely increased. As for "endowed with fame," this supreme sage, in countless past lives, for the sake of sentient beings, has given up his own body countless times, etc. Because he was under the control of great compassion, he performed immeasurable hardships and diligently sought the Dharma. Even for hearing a single verse of Dharma, he gave up the wealth of kingship countless times, etc. He captivated minds with excellent conduct, etc., and from this arose great fame. Also, when showing the deeds of enlightenment, even by emitting a single ray of light, he pacified the suffering of countless beings in the six realms, and by giving a single teaching, he matured and liberated countless disciples. Therefore, he possesses the qualities of having a good reputation that spreads throughout the three realms. As for "victorious one," in the causal stage, he overcame the two obscurations and their habitual tendencies with the vajra-like samādhi. Therefore, in the fruitional stage, not

Having abandoned all faults and attained the incomparable state. Here, it is said that all incarnations are adorned with excellent marks and signs, which indicates that not only the form body but also the Dharmakaya of the Tathagata is endowed with all excellent marks and signs. Therefore, the essence of the Tathagata is also shown there. Secondly, it is, "Where the perfect Buddha," etc. I prostrate to the places where the supreme manifestations are born, attain perfect Buddhahood, turn the wheel of Dharma, and show the manner of passing into Nirvana. This is connected. This mentions the four main activities, so one will also prostrate to the place where infinite activities are shown, and not only that, but also to the activities themselves shown in that place. Here, the three activities are only appearances to the common disciples, because the Tathagata has abandoned birth and death, and from the past, he has already attained perfect Buddhahood in the Akanishta realm. The turning of the wheel of Dharma in the world is actually another appearance of the disciples, but because the secret of speech is followed there, it is important to know that the term "showing" should not be used here. It is called the Wheel of Peace because it places the disciples in the state of perfect peace. The word "karma" is used for the agent, and it is called "peace." The meaning of the wheel is that peace is obtained from teaching the Dharma, and because peace is obtained, the Dharma is also taught, so they revolve around each other. That wheel of Dharma also has three aspects: entering the path of peace in the world, ripening, and the wheel of prophecy. Thirdly, it is, "Where the Sugatas," etc., I prostrate to the places where the Buddhas dwell, walk, stand, and sleep. Fourthly, it is, "Above," etc., where "above" refers to the realms of the gods, such as the Thirty-three, and the abodes of the Yakshas, such as the city of Alakavati. "Middle" refers to the human world, etc. "Below" refers to the great ocean and the interior of the earth, the places where the Nagas, Asuras, and accomplished women dwell. "Directions and intermediate directions" refers to.
