Collection of Teachings by Tāranātha JT289: The Iron Hook for Summoning the Accomplishment of Guru Yoga 14-195 ༄༅། །The Iron Hook for Summoning the Accomplishment of Guru Yoga. ༄༅། །The Iron Hook for Summoning the Accomplishment of Guru Yoga. ༄༅། །Oṃ svasti! This is called "The Iron Hook for Summoning the Accomplishment of Guru Yoga." I prostrate to the feet of the noble Guru. Without distraction, recite this and contemplate its meaning: All phenomena are merely appearances of one's own mind; one's own mind is also clear and empty, beyond expression. Appearances are unceasing, whatever various things may arise; yet self-awareness does not waver from this single instant. The appearance of one's own pure mind is Akanishtha; in the center of this realm, it is adorned with an immeasurable palace. In its center, upon a lion throne, lotus, sun, and moon, sits the kind root Guru. His splendor is immeasurable, like a golden Mount Meru; his radiance possesses the brilliance of a hundred thousand suns. His face is pleased with me, and a white smile plays upon it. Above, the Gurus of the lineage, possessing various miraculous displays. Around the perimeter of his body, in all directions, Heruka, Vajravarahi, and so forth. All the yidam deities are massed like clouds. Buddhas and Bodhisattvas pervade the ten directions of space. Emanated Arhats pervade the earth, and the assemblies of dakinis, protectors, and guardians also abide, each with their own retinue and immeasurable miracles, listening to the command and accomplishing as they are told. The assemblies of emanated messengers, taming whatever is to be tamed, flash like lightning and swirl like blizzards, pervading earth, space, mountains, and rivers without exception. All bodies possess splendor, radiance, and light. Voices proclaim the sound of the sacred Dharma of the Great Vehicle. Hearts are in the state of clear light and great bliss. Activities and enlightened actions manifest in various uncertain ways. All are emanations of the venerable Guru. Furthermore, all appearances of samsara and nirvana are merely the magical displays of the wisdom of the qualified Guru. Whatever body and possessions I have, whatever merit I have accumulated in the three times, whatever unowned offerings there are in the fields of the ten directions, and whatever sentient beings are gathered by enemies, friends, and neutrals—all beings of the six realms, reaching to the limits of space.

And, whatever enjoyments exist in the three realms, May they accord with my mind's emanations and aspirations. All Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, heroes, and Dakinis, All that have arisen in the three times and ten directions, The assemblies of offerings that arise from the wisdom's self-display, Uncountable, immeasurable, inconceivable, With the manner of supreme majesty and splendor, I contemplate the Lama's heart and my own mind as inseparable, As merely a display of the unborn Dharmakaya. Precious Lama, the embodiment of all Buddhas, Precious Dharma Lord, the embodiment of all sacred Dharma, Precious Guide, the embodiment of all Sangha, You, the sole Lord, the King, the embodiment of all Lamas. All Yidams are complete within your body, All Dakinis and Dharma Protectors emanate as messengers. I supplicate you, the Great Vajradhara, Bestow your blessings now upon your devoted child. In the Akaniṣṭha pure land, you are Vajradhara, When taming the fierce, you are the glorious form of Heruka, To those free from attachment, you appear as Shakyamuni, To those who practice asceticism, you hold the form of a sage. To sentient beings who have entered the path of the three vehicles, You appear as Bodhisattvas, Pratyekabuddhas, and Shravakas. You also appear in the form of gods such as Brahma, Vishnu, Indra, And Ishvara and other deities. In some instances, you delight in wielding royal power, In others, you engage in the ascetic practices of wisdom. In some instances, you also hold the form of wearing monastic robes. 14-197 I supplicate you, who manifest in whatever form is needed to tame beings, Just as the thoughts of all sentient beings are, Your teachings are also inconceivable. Just as clouds and rainbows in the sky, Appear as various forms and images, Yet arise from the sky, are of the nature of the sky, And dissolve back into the sky, So too, the Dharmakaya, free from elaboration and devoid of anything, Though without effort, you possess spontaneous and accomplished activity. Although the deeds of taming beings are generally shown, The nature of self-knowing, self-illuminating, free from elaboration, Without birth or death, free from going, coming, and abiding. I supplicate you, who possess the ultimate body, Always bowing with a respectful mind, I take refuge in you, the embodiment of all refuges, I offer all offerings in the state of non-duality, Although without inherent existence, I confess all sins, I rejoice in all the virtues of samsara and nirvana, Cutting off the sound and emptiness of expression.
