Furthermore, Ananda, if a patient recites this secret great divine mantra three times a day, that person's eyes will regain clarity and see things as before. Because this secret great divine mantra of pure eyes has great power, the eyes can attain such purity, removing dimness and internal and external obstructions, even wind-poison obstructions, yellow-poison obstructions, phlegm-poison obstructions, etc., all are eliminated. There is no pain, no suffering, no eye discharge or tears. Furthermore, the true power of pure precepts, the true power of practice, the true power of the Five-Abilities Immortals (those with five supernatural powers), the true power of the virtuous sages, the true power of sacred medicine, the true power of secret phrases, the true power of Dependent Origination (the law of conditions), the true power of the Truth of Suffering, the true power of the Truth of Accumulation, the true power of the Truth of Cessation, the true power of the Truth of the Path, the true power of a Srota-apanna (Stream-enterer), the true power of a Sakrdagamin (Once-returner), the true power of an Anagamin (Non-returner), the true power of an Arhat (Worthy One), the true power of a Pratyekabuddha (Solitary Buddha), the true power of a Bodhisattva (Enlightening Being), the true power of a Buddha (Enlightened One). With such true powers, the eyes attain purity. At that time, the World Honored One again spoke a secret divine mantra, saying: Namo (prolonged) Buddhaya (one phrase) Bhagavat Siddhyantu Mantra Patna Svaha (two) The Buddha told Ananda, 'If a person recites this secret great divine mantra three times a day, together with the previous divine mantra, according to the Dharma, all eye diseases of that person will be eliminated.' At that time, Venerable Ananda said to the Buddha, 'World Honored One, I now receive the Buddha's holy decree to hold this secret great divine mantra and go to the place of the Elder Shanle (Joy of Goodness), to widely proclaim it to him, and to bring great benefit to the Elder Shanle and the four assemblies.' After the Buddha spoke this sutra, Venerable Ananda and all the great assembly, hearing what the Buddha had said, were all greatly pleased, believed, accepted, and practiced it.
