English version T21 No. 1380 The Sutra of Sundarananda the Householder Spoken by the Buddha No. 1380 The Sutra of Sundarananda the Householder Spoken by the Buddha Translated by Dharmajnana, Tripitaka Master, Great Master of Illuminating Doctrine, Minister Attendant of the Imperial Court, Acting Vice President of the Court of Imperial Sacrifices, of the Western Regions, under Imperial Decree. Thus have I heard. At one time, the Buddha was in Kapilavastu with a great assembly. At that time, there was a Sakya householder named Sundarananda residing in his own place. That householder deeply revered the Three Jewels (Triratna), taking refuge in the Buddha, taking refuge in the Dharma, and taking refuge in the Sangha. He only believed in the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, and no longer believed in other non-Buddhist paths. He only sought the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, well understanding the Four Noble Truths (苦集滅道). Seeing the true principle, he obtained great rewards. And when it was not great, he immediately attained Bodhi. At that time, the householder suddenly lost sight of the visible world. Then, Sundarananda the householder, facing the World-Honored One (Bhagavan) from afar, made this vow: 'My Buddha, World-Honored One, with great compassion, I wish you would bestow upon me eyes, bestow upon me the light of eyes, bestow upon me the purity of eyes, and remove the darkness of my eyes.' Having made this vow, he further said, 'I now take refuge in the Buddha, I take refuge in the Well-Gone One (Sugata).' At that time, the World-Honored One, with his pure heavenly ear surpassing human ears, heard from afar the householder making his vow. He then said to the Venerable Ananda, 'Ananda, now take this secret divine mantra of mine and go to the place of the Sakya householder Sundarananda. Give him rescue and protection, causing him to obtain tranquility and happiness, and even for the sake of benefiting and bringing happiness to the four assemblies.' At that time, the World-Honored One, for the sake of Sundarananda the householder and others, spoke this great secret divine mantra of the pure eye: 'Tadyatha, hili mili kili, hi he to, hulu hulu, huluye vidi, hulu hulu hulu, nu nu nu nu lu.' By the power of the phrases of this secret divine mantra of the pure eye, may the eyes obtain purity, remove darkness, remove obstructions, and even remove wind-caused eye diseases, bile-caused eye diseases, phlegm-caused eye diseases, and blood-caused eye diseases, without pain, without swelling, without vexation, without suffering. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

English version: Without any discharge or tears, all such illnesses are completely eliminated. Furthermore, through the power of the truth of precepts, the power of the truth of practice, the power of the truth of asceticism, the power of the truth of secret mantras, the power of the truth of dependent origination, the power of the truth of suffering, the power of the truth of the cause of suffering, the power of the truth of the cessation of suffering, the power of the truth of the path to the cessation of suffering, the power of the truth of Srotapanna (须陀洹, Stream-enterer), the power of the truth of Sakrdagamin (斯陀含, Once-returner), the power of the truth of Anagamin (阿那含, Non-returner), the power of the truth of Arhat (阿罗汉, Worthy One), the power of the truth of Pratyekabuddha (缘觉, Solitary Buddha), the power of the truth of Bodhisattva (菩萨, Enlightenment Being), the power of the truth of Buddha (佛, Awakened One), the power of the truth of Dharma (法, Teachings), the power of the truth of the Sangha (圣众, Community). By the power of these truths, the eyes can become clear, removing dimness, removing cataracts. All illnesses caused by wind-toxins, yellow-toxins, phlegm-toxins, or hidden-toxins cannot invade. There will be no pain, no swelling, no affliction, no suffering, and no discharge or tears, etc. The Buddha told Ananda, 'This secret mantra was jointly proclaimed by the past six Perfectly Enlightened Buddhas. They are: Vipasyin Buddha (尾钵尸如来) Perfectly Enlightened, Sikhin Buddha (室弃如来) Perfectly Enlightened, Visvabhu Buddha (尾说部如来) Perfectly Enlightened, Krakucchanda Buddha (讫啰葛忖陀如来) Perfectly Enlightened, Kanakamuni Buddha (葛那葛牟尼如来) Perfectly Enlightened, Kasyapa Buddha (迦叶波如来) Perfectly Enlightened.
