English version The Ritual Manual of Constellations, Volume 1 Composed by Yi Xing The Mudra of Ākāśagarbha (虚空藏, the Bodhisattva of the Treasury of Space): Join the palms and bind the water fingers (ring fingers). The wind fingers (index fingers) are shaped like a jewel. The mantra says: Om Akasha (虚空) Garbha Iya Om Mari Gamari Muri Svaha If one desires to seek blessings and wisdom, one should take refuge in this Bodhisattva. The sun, moon, and stars are all transformations of Ākāśagarbha. The Mudra of Mañjuśrī (文殊, the Bodhisattva of Wisdom): Join the palms with hollow space. Press the two thumbs on the nails of the two water fingers (ring fingers) respectively. Bend the two wind fingers (index fingers) and touch the tips of the space. The mantra says: Om (elongated) A (entering with a harsh sound) Vi (elongated) Ra Hum Kha Chara. If seeking to pacify disasters. When desiring to extinguish the seven kinds of calamities, namely, solar and lunar eclipses, the five planets deviating from their regular paths, wars and bandits rising up in competition, untimely floods and droughts, wind and rain losing their regularity, wicked ministers betraying and harming the people of the country, ferocious wild beasts devouring sentient beings, and poor harvests of the five grains. Such calamities, urgent dangers, official disasters, royal disasters, death disasters, terrors, etc., should all be dissipated. The Mudra of Samantabhadra (普贤, the Bodhisattva of Universal Virtue): Join the palms with a hollow space. The mantra says: Chi-bo-zhuo (decisive) Pi-ni-bo-zhuo (severing bonds) Niao-su-bo-zhuo (exhausting birth and death) Recite this mantra seven times in the morning and seven times at night, and all enchantments, evil paths, and insect poisons will be completely eliminated. One can attain the three liberations of body, mind, and wisdom. In future lives, one will not receive the body of birth and death, and will attain the Dharma body. Whether domestic or foreign lands, enemies, all evil people, all ghosts and spirits, all thieves, tigers, wolves, lions, poisonous insects, and ferocious beasts, upon hearing the sound of this mantra, will all shut their mouths and not disturb each other. Changes in the heavens causing calamities, evil dream disasters, and strange phenomena of hundreds of birds will naturally disappear. The merits and functions of this mantra cannot be fully described. The Mudra of Prolonging Life: The left hand holds the fire finger (middle finger) and the space finger (little finger), as if holding a lotus flower. The right hand is extended straight down. Straighten the left hand with fingers together. Bend the earth and water fingers to the middle joint. Place the wind finger on the back of the fire finger. Bend the middle joint of the space finger. The mantra is: Om Indra Ya Svaha If you recite this mantra, you can be granted official positions and fulfill all requests. 毗沙门天 (Pi Sha Men Tian - Vaisravana) Mudra: Join the palms together with a hollow center. Śāntikari svāhā: May peace be accomplished. The mantra of Ketu (south lunar node) says: Oṃ Vajra (conjunction) Ketunā Nakṣatra (conjunction) Rājāya (title): Oṃ, Vajra Ketu, King of the stars. Svāhā: May it be accomplished. The mudra of the Nine Luminaries: Firmly join the palms. The two spaces (thumbs) are together and upright. The two winds (index fingers) are extended. It is called the origin, opening, establishing, coming, and going. The mantra says: Oṃ (1) Graha (conjunction) īśvarāya (2) Pratipadāya (3) Dyuti (4) Mayā (5) Svāhā (6): Oṃ, Lord of the planets, grant radiance, may it be accomplished. The mantra says: Oṃ Nakṣatra (conjunction) Jū (Ningji reverse) Sunṛte Svāhā: Oṃ, Lord of the constellations, may there be auspiciousness.
