Shambala Kagyu Teachings NG11: Instructions on the Immortal Body and Mind, a Branch of Niguma. 1-134 Instructions on the Immortal Body and Mind, a Branch of Niguma. Namo Guru (藏文,梵文天城体,guru,Teacher). Here, to complete the oral instructions on the Immortal Body and Mind, a branch of Niguma, and to practice them, one purifies the three channels, winds, and bindus through thirty-two tsalungs. On a comfortable cushion, sit in a comfortable posture, such as the lotus position. First, perform the preliminary practices of refuge, bodhicitta, and guru yoga, and then contemplate as follows: This 'death,' does it refer to the death of the body or the death of the mind? If you think it is the death of the body, then is it the death of the resultant body or the death of the habitual body? If it is the former, that is not possible, because the body is merely a collection of flesh, blood, sinews, skin, etc., a mere object. How can it die? If it could, why wouldn't stones and other things also die? The habitual body also does not die, because if it did, then dying in a dream would have to be equivalent to real death. If that were the case, then those who dream of dying in a dream would not have to wake up, because they would already be dead. In short, when the force of past karma is exhausted and the mind no longer abides in this resultant body, we consider this to be death, but in reality, death is not truly established. Therefore, one should contemplate that the body is immortal and cultivate this steadfastly. 1-135 If you think it is the death of the mind, then in order to practice this special instruction called 'The Mind is Immortal, Self-Liberated,' first perform the preliminary practices of refuge and bodhicitta, and then in an instant, on a lotus, sun disc, and the seats of Bhairava and Kalaratri, visualize Chakrasamvara (藏文,梵文天城体,cakrasaṃvara,Wheel-Binding) as the deity, blue in color, with his right leg extended, pressing down on the belly of Kalaratri, and his left leg bent, pressing down on the head of black Bhairava. With one face and two arms, three eyes wide open, with a wrathful expression, baring his fangs. His hair is tied in a topknot, adorned with a jewel at the top. In his left hand, he holds a crescent moon, upon which rests a multicolored vajra. His two hands hold a vajra and a bell, embracing his consort. He wears a crown of five dry skulls, a necklace of fifty wet human heads, and is adorned with six bone ornaments. He wears a tiger skin loincloth, displaying the nine dances. In his embrace is his consort, Vajravarahi (藏文,梵文天城体,vajravārāhī,Vajra Sow), red in color, with her right hand holding a curved knife, threatening the wicked, and her left hand holding a skull cup filled with blood, embracing her consort. Naked, with three eyes wide open, her hair disheveled. Her body is full, her breasts are prominent, and she wears a crown and necklace of dry skulls, adorned with five bone ornaments, her left leg extended, stepping on... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Folding upwards, embracing the father, visualize both parents residing in the midst of the blazing fire of wisdom. Visualize the lama above their crown and supplicate. Then, enter into practice, which has three parts: first, the preliminary, visualize a very clear deity form at the father's hairline. Again, visualize a blue Hūṃ (ཧཱུྃ,hūṃ,hūṃ,seed syllable) radiating light on each head. Then, visualize light arising from the Hūṃ, illuminating clearly up to the brow. Then, three bright, flashing eyes from the bridge of the nose to the corners of the eyes. Then, gradually visualize the throat, heart, navel, up to the junction of the secret place. Then, visualize the knees, ankles, up to the fingernails of the toes, becoming clear and bright. This is the father's outer purification. Then, again visualize blue light radiating from the Hūṃ, going down through the fontanel, turning the nose and throat blue. Then, visualize the heart, navel, secret place, knees, ankles, up to the inside of the toes, as blue light. This is the father's inner purification. Similarly, visualize a red Vaṃ (བཾ,vaṃ,vaṃ,seed syllable) radiating red light at the mother's hairline. Then, visualize red light arising from it, purifying the mother's outer and inner aspects as before, especially visualizing the bhaga (Sanskrit, bhaga, bhaga, female genitalia) and breasts as bright red. This is the clarification of color. Then, gradually clarify the visualization from the center of the father's eyes. Visualize the hairstyle, the way of holding the vajra and bell, the bared teeth, the elegant posture of the feet, the flames, etc., one by one. This is the visualization of form. Similarly, visualize each form of the mother. Then, visualize the jewel on the father's crown, the crescent moon, various vajras, the dharma wheel, earrings, necklaces, bracelets, belts, ashes, the six bone ornaments, and the headdress and necklace made of dry and wet human heads. For the mother, visualize the five bone ornaments except for ashes, the headdress and necklace made of dry human heads, etc., in sequence. This is the clarification of ornaments. Visualize both father and mother as clear emptiness, great bliss, the clear light of the nature of union. Visualize that its clear essence is unmixed and complete, and that its empty essence is without any inherent existence, as the nature of light. Visualize that this is nothing other than the appearance of one's own mind as the deity form, and that it is not truly established as an external entity separate from it. Decide this and visualize. Therefore, like a dream and a reflection in water, even if various objects are dreamed of in a dream, the objects do not come here, nor does one's own mind go there. It is the manifestation of mind itself. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
