Great Scholar Shakya Chokden's Instructions Collection skc52: A Guide to the Three Essential Points 8-20-1a ༄༅། །A Guide to the Three Essential Points ༄། །Jowo Mitradzoki's advice to Khro Phu Lotsawa ༈ In this life, practice continuous yoga. [A Guide to the Three Essential Points] ༄༅། །Homage to the noble Avalokiteśvara! To practice the three essential points taught by Jowo Mitradzoki to Khro Phu Lotsawa, there are three parts: practicing in this life, continuous yoga; practicing at the time of death, the secret of transference; practicing in the bardo, the secret of blending. The first part has three aspects: preliminary, main practice, and concluding activity. First, as stated in the root text: 'Remember impermanence and suffering, generate great compassion.' The meaning is: whether one is a supreme deity yogi or remains in an ordinary state, one should visualize a crystal stupa with a thousand doors (symbolizing all Dharma gates) on the crown of the head, in which reside the thousand Buddhas of the Fortunate Aeon. Its essence is: one's own guru manifests as the Dharmakaya, and performs the deeds of others through the Nirmanakaya. The 'deity' in the heart refers to visualizing a four-petaled white lotus in one's heart, with a full moon disc at its center, upon which sits Jowo Kharsapani, adorned in the manner of a celibate, with his right hand in the gesture of supreme generosity and his left hand holding a white crystal rosary with his ring finger at his heart, radiating white light. Focus single-pointedly, practicing in short sessions with many repetitions. The meaning of meditating on the unborn nature of one's own mind: with intense devotion, pray to the guru above the crown of the head, who then dissolves into the crown and merges indivisibly with the deity in the heart. The deity also dissolves into a ball of light, thereby determining that the nature of one's own mind is clear light. 8-20-1b Remain for a long time in a state of non-distraction. If one wishes to arise from meditation, visualize the clear light of one's own mind transforming into the form of the letter 'HRIH' (藏文:ཧྲཱིཿ,梵文天城体:ह्रीः,梵文罗马拟音:hrīḥ, 汉语字面意思:Great compassion), surrounded by the six-syllable mantra. Through the blessing of reciting 'Om Mani Padme Hum' (藏文:ཨོཾ་མ་ཎི་པདྨེ་ཧཱུྃ,梵文天城体:ॐ मणि पद्मे हूँ,梵文罗马拟音:oṃ maṇi padme hūṃ,汉语字面意思:Om! Jewel in the lotus! Hum!), a stream of nectar descends from the 'HRIH' (藏文:ཧྲཱིཿ,梵文天城体:ह्रीः,梵文罗马拟音:hrīḥ, 汉语字面意思:Great compassion) letter, filling the entire body. This is the concluding activity. At the time of death, the secret of transference Second, regarding transference, the text says: 'Offer one's own body as a sacrifice, abandon all attachments, and through the channel of light, project the mind towards the Tushita heaven.' The meaning has three parts. First, offer all possessions to the objects of offering and give to those in need. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It does not depend on the influence of the land of death, and it enables one to be free from all the suffering of clinging to 'I' and 'mine'. Furthermore, visualize your own body as an offering, with three skull heads forming a stove in front of you. With your right hand, use the naturally generated wisdom sword to cut from above the eyebrow and place it on the stove. Cut off the remaining parts of the body one by one, and finally throw the right hand onto the Kapala. Light the natural fire from below, and as the steam rises, invite the nectar of wisdom. Visualize your mind appearing as Jowo Kharasapani (ཇོ་བོ་ཁར་ས་པ་ཎི།), and from his heart emanate many beautiful goddesses holding jeweled bowls, offering to the Guru and all places of offering, especially offering to Maitreya (རྗེ་བཙུན་བྱམས་པ་). Give alms to all sentient beings in the six realms, thereby pleasing all the Buddhas, fulfilling the vows of the Dharma protectors, and purifying all karmic debts. Contemplate offering and abandoning attachment in this way. After completing these two preliminary stages of offering and abandoning attachment, the actual transference of consciousness (འཕོ་བ་) begins: Due to the accumulation of merit, rays of various colors emanate from the heart of Maitreya (བྱམས་པ་) in Tushita (དགའ་ལྡན་), shining upon the crown of your head. Within that light, there is the shape of an empty tube, and within it, there is another light in the shape of a hook, extending from there and piercing the crown of your head. Your mind, appearing as Jowo Kharasapani (ཇོ་བོ་ཁར་ས་པ་ཎི།), is instantly invited into the heart of Maitreya (བྱམས་པ་) in Tushita (དགའ་ལྡན་), merging with him. After a moment, it emerges again from his heart and, in the mandala in front of Maitreya (བྱམས་པ་), transforms into a lotus flower, listening to the Mahayana Dharma. If you do not prepare beforehand, you will not be able to perform the actual practice, so it is very important to prepare in advance. Third, the method of integrating meditation in the Bardo (བར་དོ་). The text says: 'If one knows this in the Bardo, transform both inner and outer secrets, with emptiness and great compassion, the wise should connect the links well.' This means that if you have not succeeded in transferring consciousness (འཕོ་མ་) before, you must manifest the path in the Bardo (བར་དོ་) when it arises. If you do not practice now, you will not be able to integrate it in the Bardo (བར་དོ་). Therefore, you must practice now, and the method is: Resolve that you have died and been reborn in the Bardo (བར་དོ་). Visualize all external environments as Akanishta (འོག་མིན་), all internal sentient beings as deities, and all thoughts and awareness as naturally luminous. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
