At one time, the Bhagavan (Tibetan: བཅོམ་ལྡན་འདས།, Sanskrit Devanagari: भगवन्, Sanskrit Romanization: bhagavan, literal Chinese meaning: World Honored One) was dwelling in Rajagriha at Vulture Peak Mountain, together with a great gathering of monks and a great gathering of Bodhisattvas. At that time, the Bhagavan was absorbed in a Samadhi called the Profound Illumination of the Dharma. Also at that time, the noble Bodhisattva Mahasattva Avalokiteshvara, contemplating the practice of the profound Prajnaparamita, beheld that the five skandhas are also empty of intrinsic nature.\nThen, by the power of the Buddha, the venerable Shariputra said to the noble Bodhisattva Mahasattva Avalokiteshvara:\n\"If any son or daughter of good family wishes to practice the profound Prajnaparamita, how should they train?\"\nHaving said this, the noble Bodhisattva Mahasattva Avalokiteshvara said to the venerable Sharadvatiputra Shariputra:\n\"Shariputra, if any son or daughter of good family wishes to practice the profound Prajnaparamita, they should contemplate in this way: They should truly and correctly behold that the five skandhas are also empty of intrinsic nature.\nForm is emptiness; emptiness is form.

No birth, no death, no defilement, no purity, no increase, no decrease, no incompleteness. Shariputra, therefore, in emptiness there is no form, no feeling, no perception, no mental formation, no consciousness. No eye, no ear, no nose, no tongue, no body, no mind. No form, no sound, no smell, no taste, no touch, no phenomenon. From no eye realm, up to no realm of mental consciousness. No ignorance, no extinction of ignorance, up to no old age and death, no extinction of old age and death. Likewise, no suffering, no origin, no cessation, no path. No wisdom, no attainment, no non-attainment. Shariputra, therefore, because Bodhisattvas have no attainment, they rely on and abide in Prajnaparamita. Because their minds have no obscurations, they have no fear. Having completely transcended inverted views, they reach the ultimate Nirvana. All Buddhas of the three times also rely on this Prajnaparamita and manifestly awaken to unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment. Therefore, the Prajnaparamita mantra, the great knowledge mantra, the unsurpassed mantra, the mantra that equalizes the unequal, the mantra that completely pacifies all suffering, is not false, therefore know it to be true. The Prajnaparamita mantra is spoken: Tadyatha, Om, Gate Gate Para Gate Para Samgate Bodhi Svaha! Shariputra, Bodhisattva Mahasattvas should thus train in the profound Prajnaparamita. Then, the Blessed One arose from that samadhi and gave approval to the Bodhisattva Mahasattva, the noble Avalokiteshvara, saying, "Well done, well done! Son of noble family, it is so, it is so! Son of noble family, just as you have taught, one should practice the profound Prajnaparamita. The Tathagatas also rejoice." After the Blessed One had spoken thus, the venerable son of Sharadvati, and the Bodhisattva Mahasattva, the noble Avalokiteshvara,
