English

Offer and protect, pay homage to the great king, the terrifying star deity Mahākāla (Skt: Mahākāla, Tib: mgon po, meaning 'Great Black One')! Also, countless worldly deities, demons, the eight classes of gods and demons, and the proud male and female retinues surround him. On the foreheads of all these retinues is Oṃ (Tib: ཨོཾ, Skt Devanagari: ओम्, Skt Romanization: om, literal meaning: completeness), on the throats is Āḥ (Tib: ཨཱཿ, Skt Devanagari: आः, Skt Romanization: āḥ, literal meaning: arising), and in the hearts is Hūṃ (Tib: ཧཱུྃ, Skt Devanagari: हुं, Skt Romanization: hūṃ, literal meaning: immovable). From one's own nostrils, radiate light and invite the protector and his retinue. Vajra Samājaḥ (Tib: བཛྲ་ས་མཱ་ཛཿ, Skt Romanization: vajra samājaḥ, literal meaning: Vajra Samājaḥ). Invite all protectors, goddesses, activity protectors, and all confessors, etc., and merge into non-duality. Again, radiate light and invite the five families of empowerment deities and their retinues. Request all Tathāgatas to bestow empowerment upon us. Oṃ Vajrī Bhāva Abhiṣiñca Hūṃ (Tib: ཨོཾ་བཛྲི་བྷཱ་ཝ་ཨ་བྷི་ཥིཉྩ་ཧཱུྃ, Skt Romanization: oṃ vajrī bhāva abhiṣiñca hūṃ, literal meaning: Oṃ, Vajra nature, please empower Hūṃ). Thus empower. All impurities on the body are cleared, and the remaining water flows upwards. The main deity is Akshobhya (Skt: Acalanātha, Tib: mi bskyod pa), and the retinue is adorned with half of a five-pronged vajra as a headdress. Then recite the seven-syllable mantra, and circle the fire striker clockwise three times on the stove, lighting the lamp in the southeast corner. Use poplar wood and other firewood, as well as three spoons filled with ghee, to fuel the fire. On the tongues of the protector and his retinue, mark with the vajra Hūṃ (Tib: ཧཱུྃ, Skt Devanagari: हुं, Skt Romanization: hūṃ, literal meaning: immovable) syllable. On the spoons for filling and pouring ghee, mark with the Raṃ (Tib: རཾ, Skt Devanagari: रं, Skt Romanization: raṃ, literal meaning: fire) syllable. Offer food and ghee with three seven-syllable mantras. Join the filling and pouring spoons together, circle them clockwise three times on the stove, and recite: Oṃ Mahākālāya Saparivāra, please pacify all our sins, evil deeds, broken vows, transgressions, and deficiencies in mantras, Śāntiṃ Kuru Svāhā (Tib: ཨོཾ་མ་ཧཱ་ཀཱ་ལཱ་ཡ་ས་པ་རི་ཝཱ་ར་བདག་གི་སྡིག་སྒྲིབ་ལས་ངན་དམ་ཚིག་ཉམས་ཆགས་སྔགས་ལྷག་ཆད་ཀྱི་ཉེས་པ་ཐམས་ཅད་ཤཱནྟིཾ་ཀུ་རུ་སྭཱ་ཧཱ།, Skt Romanization: oṃ mahākālāya saparivāra badag gi sdig sgrib las ngan dam tshig nyams chags sngags lhag chad kyi nyes pa thams cad śāntiṃ kuru svāhā, literal meaning: Oṃ, Mahākāla and retinue, please pacify all our sins, evil deeds, broken vows, transgressions, and deficiencies in mantras, pacify, do, svāhā!). Then offer an appropriate amount of poplar wood and ghee, sprinkle mustard seeds in a ratio of one-tenth, and offer one hundred and eight portions of other burnt offerings as appropriate. During this time, fuel the fire with poplar wood and ghee, and finally offer three burnt offerings filled with ghee. For all these offerings, recite the seven-syllable mantra and add the above-mentioned prayer. Purify and bless the Torma (Skt: Bali, Tib: gtor ma, offering), offer it with their respective mantras, and then perform outer and inner offerings, praises, and activity rituals, which can be elaborate or simple. The third part is the conclusion, use the Hundred Syllable Mantra to make up for any deficiencies, and ask for forgiveness for unfinished matters. Dissolve the protector and the eight deities in front into oneself, and others recite Vajra Muḥ (Tib: བཛྲ་མུཿ, Skt Romanization: vajra muḥ, literal meaning: Vajra Muḥ). Write the three seed syllables on one's three places, dedicate the merit, make aspirations, and widely perform auspicious deeds. Collect other items, and do not touch the fire until it is extinguished. After the ritual is completed, pour the ashes into the river. This short and pleasant text, written in clear and easy-to-understand language, may this merit pacify all obstacles and adverse conditions. Written by the Sakya translator. The wrathful fire puja has a separate ritual. May all be auspicious! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
