The Ambrosia Drop, a Practical Guide to the Garland of Jewels, the Stages of the Secret Mantra Path. The Ambrosia Drop, a Practical Guide to the Garland of Jewels, the Stages of the Secret Mantra Path. Herein lies the treatise called The Ambrosia Drop, a Practical Guide to the Garland of Jewels, the Stages of the Secret Mantra Path. I prostrate to the gurus, yidams, command-holders, protectors of the Dharma, and all those who keep the vows. This Ambrosia Drop, a Practical Guide to the Garland of Jewels, the Stages of the Path, has three parts: First, to lead one's own mind to look; second, if seen, to point out the nature of mind; and to point out the meaning of what is seen. First, search for where your own mind is, and look at what it is. If you say, "Bring it here once and let me see," and then say, "The mind is emptiness, there is nothing to see, and it cannot be found when searched for," then you have not seen the mind, but have become an unconscious, unfeeling, inanimate object. If you say, "This appearance is the mind," then you have only seen the general awareness of the mind, but you have not recognized your own mind as it is appearing right now. It is like saying, "All those people in that big crowd are people," you have only seen the general category of people, but you have not recognized the specific person you are referring to. Second, pointing out the nature of mind: It is not enough to see only the general category, you must recognize the mind as it is appearing right now. Now, sound appears as mind. When I say, "Look at what that mind is," it immediately appears in your mind. Looking at what you yourself are, that is your own mind. Use the example of mother and child to point it out. Other than that, or if it is not that, you will not find it by searching elsewhere. Furthermore, does the sound of saying "Look at the mind" look back at the mind, or does the mind grasp the sound? Look at the sound and mind as inseparable. If you say it is like the first two, then you do not understand. If you say they exist inseparably, then you understand, so point it out. Similarly, whatever appears, such as forms, sounds, smells, tastes, tactile sensations, appearances of gods and demons, etc., that is your own mind. Again, point to something like a vase and ask, "What is it?" If you say it is a vase, then you do not understand. If you say that mind itself appears as a vase, then you have seen the nature of mind. Third, pointing out the meaning of what is seen has three parts: pointing out that appearances are self-liberated, that the nature is primordially liberated, and that the essence is the absence of duality. First, pointing out appearances: each person's own instruction is to point out any one thing, whether it is pleasure and pain, or thoughts, or demonic appearances, etc.

Alas! First, observe what that mind that is looking at what is, or that which appears as a ghostly phenomenon, is it external? Or does it reside within one's own mind? Let it observe. If it says it is external, then it does not understand. If it says it resides within oneself, then it has seen the essence, therefore give the introduction. If the appearance of a ghost is external, then it will not appear to oneself. Since it appears, and resides within oneself, it is not external. Decide that it is one's own mind, and practice as self-appearance. Then, when one knows it as self-appearance, the thought of self-grasping or ghost-grasping will not arise. If it arises, then one has not yet recognized it as self-appearance, so practice self-appearance. In short, whether it is one's own mind or not is known by whether it appears to oneself or not. Whether one has realized it as oneself or not is known by whether ghost-grasping arises or not. Therefore, apply everything that appears to practice. Second, the instruction on introducing emptiness is: according to the view of the above ghostly appearance, is that self-appearing mind, the nature of appearance, truly existent? Or is its essence emptiness? Let it observe. If it says it is truly existent, then it does not understand. If it says it is emptiness, then, is it empty because it is pulled back, or is it empty after it disappears? Ask if it is empty in itself. If it is like the first two, then it does not understand. If it says it is empty in itself, then it has seen the essence, therefore give the introduction. If the appearance of ghosts, etc., is truly existent in its own nature, then it must be something that does not cease and does not give rise to anything else, but it ceases and gives rise to various things. Because its essence is emptiness, practice emptiness. Therefore, if one recognizes it as emptiness, the appearance of ghosts will not arise. If it arises, then one has not yet recognized it as emptiness, so practice emptiness. Therefore, whether it is emptiness or not is known by whether the phenomenon is destroyed or not. Whether one has realized emptiness or not is known by whether grasping at truth arises or not. Third, the instruction on introducing non-duality is: is that emptiness a state of nothingness? Or is it a state of clear awareness? If it says it is nothing, then it does not understand. If it says it is clear awareness, then, let it observe whether the above appearance and emptiness are truly separate or non-dual. If it says they are separate, then it does not understand. If it says they are non-dual, then it has seen the essence, therefore give the introduction. If appearance and emptiness are truly separate, then they must be established as two, but that is not the case. Because appearance and emptiness are non-dual, practice non-duality. Therefore, if one realizes non-duality, dualistic grasping will not arise. If it arises, then one has not yet become familiar with it, so practice non-duality. Therefore, whether it is non-dual or not is known by whether duality is established or not. Familiarize with non-duality.
