A Detailed Explanation of the Essential Practice of the Kyergang Tradition of Glorious Hayagriva, by Taranatha. A Detailed Explanation of the Essential Practice of the Kyergang Tradition of Glorious Hayagriva, by Taranatha. A Detailed Explanation of the Essential Practice of the Kyergang Tradition of Glorious Hayagriva, Herein Resides. Om, may there be well-being!). For those of initial capacity and lesser intellect, in order to realize the meaning of the essential, here I speak of the nectar of the Guru's words, and write a little about the stages of visualization. First, in front of oneself, in the center of a flourishing lotus tree, visualize the face of the root Guru looking towards oneself. Around that, the lineage Gurus surround. In front of that, the Yidam deity. To the right, the form of the Buddha. Behind, the sacred Dharma. To the left, the noble Sangha. Slightly below that, visualize the Dharma protectors vividly dwelling. To the four directions, also visualize the four great kings mentally as acting according to one's command. With oneself as the main focus, for the sake of kind parents and all sentient beings of the three realms pervading the extent of space, one must take refuge with one mind. In that state, starting from "I and all sentient beings equal to the extent of space," up to "I take refuge in the glorious and holy Lamas," "I take refuge in the Yidam Mandala," "I take refuge in the perfect Buddhas," "I take refuge in the sacred Dharma," "I take refuge in the noble Sangha," "I take refuge in the Dakinis and Dharma Protectors." In this way, recite without distraction of mind hundreds, thousands, or millions of times. Refuge also has two types, four rounds and six rounds, this is the six-round refuge. Starting from "Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha," up to "May it be accomplished." Starting from "May all sentient beings have happiness," up to "May they abide in the immeasurable." Recite three times. After that, the objects of refuge are gradually withdrawn and placed slightly in equanimity with emptiness. Because of fearing the suffering of the lower realms and wishing to be born as gods and humans, these refuges and generation of bodhicitta have been done generally for those of lesser intellect. Second, the main practice, purifying with Svabhava emptiness. The emptiness starting from "From within emptiness" is like space, without any objects such as earth, stones, mountains, or rocks. The lotus and sun seat is like various lotus petals being lifted by the wind in the sky, above the stamen. The sun mandala is the mandala facing downwards.

For example, he is not empty, but red in color, blazing with hot rays, like a lump of iron taken from a blacksmith's coal pile burning with flames. On top of that, the essence of one's own mind, the letter (ཧྲཱིཿ, Devanagari: ह्रीः, Romanized Sanskrit: hrīḥ, Literal Chinese meaning: Hrih), long in shape, with a tail and accent, stands upright like a grain of barley rising on a mirror. From it, rays of light emanate, offering to the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. Purify the sins and obscurations of all sentient beings. Transform all demons, obstacles, and harm-doers into ashes, like a bird's feather burned in fire. All the power of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas gathers together with oneself in the form of light, caused by dissolving into the letter (ཧྲཱིཿ, Devanagari: ह्रीः, Romanized Sanskrit: hrīḥ, Literal Chinese meaning: Hrih). Transform oneself into the wrathful king Hayagriva, body color red, face and hands completely perfect according to the scriptures. All hands are stretched outwards, making a threatening gesture towards the king of demons and all harm-doers. The three-pointed spear is like three iron spears joined at one root. The others are according to the scriptures. The human skin shawl and the raw elephant hide, with the human head facing right and the elephant head facing left, both stacked, with two legs and two arms joined and wrapped around the neck. Like the fire at the end of an eon, residing in the center of the fiercely burning and turbulent flames that burn the three realms at once. Between the neck and the shoulder blades, visualize a fierce wrathful deity similar to oneself, capable of instantly turning all harm-doers into powder, immeasurable, as if wearing seamless armor. Thus, appearing but empty of inherent existence, the seed syllables of the three places (body, speech, and mind) appearing as a great terrifying presence, and above the letter (ཧཱུྃ, Devanagari: हुं, Romanized Sanskrit: hūṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Hum), on the sun disc that is the same as before, around the letter (ཧྲཱིཿ, Devanagari: ह्रीः, Romanized Sanskrit: hrīḥ, Literal Chinese meaning: Hrih). Starting from the front, arrange the heart mantra and root mantra in order, clockwise. Moreover, these letters all have their heads pointing upwards and their mouths facing inwards. One must focus on the red letters emitting five-colored rays of light and recite. For beginners, there will be cases like getting tired of focusing on one object. Therefore, first focus on the deity's form and recite the mantra one hundred and eight times. Secondly, focus on the second mantra garland that arises from the red mantra garland, and recite the same number of times. Thirdly, rays of light emanate from the mantra garland. Offerings are made to all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, pleasing them.
