May it be accomplished spontaneously, bless me! Praying with one-pointed devotion. When one's breath goes out, emanate offerings from the tip of the rays of light, make offerings and pray. When the rays of light gather back and dissolve into oneself, contemplate purifying obscurations and receiving blessings. After doing such coming and going many times, finally, when the breath goes out, contemplate one's own body melting into a red light, the essence of one's own mind dissolving into that red bindu, and merging inseparably with the mind of the main deity. Sometimes read the sutra of the Pure Land of Sukhavati, contemplate its qualities, and strongly generate the aspiration to go there. Also recite the aspiration prayers of Sukhavati that come from the Northern Treasures. Even when sleeping at night, practice the coming and going of breath as before, and through the power of prayer, there will be no obstacles at the time of death, and there is no doubt that one will be born in Sukhavati, so it is said. (13) Regarding the bardo of the illusory body, this body borrowed from the four elements disintegrates, and at the time of death, it is called the dissolution of the elements into their own places, that is, flesh dissolves into earth, the sign is that the body cannot support itself; blood dissolves into water, the sign is that the mouth and nose are dry and the tongue is stiff; warmth dissolves into fire, the sign is that the body's warmth disappears; breath dissolves into wind, the sign is that the mouth and nose are crooked, and the limbs twitch. When heaviness and darkness occur as if a great mountain is pressing down, lift the body upward, make awareness clear, do not give in to the power of bodily pain and mental habits, abandon meaningless talk, and rest the memory of the Dharma nature in a state of clear emptiness without grasping. With strong devotion, visualize its own radiance as Great Orgyen (Padmasambhava). In the bardo of the disintegration of the borrowed illusory body, At the time of confused appearances, extreme confusion, suffering, and danger, Pray without doubt or hesitation. Orgyen (Padmasambhava), with the wisdom that knows the three times, May confused appearances be pacified in their own nature, without doubt. Pray to Orgyen Padmasambhava! May wishes be spontaneously fulfilled, bless me! Pray as much as possible and abide in equanimity, at the time of death, the first bardo will be liberated into the Dharmakaya. If one is not liberated from that, when the appearances of sound, light, and rays occur, recognize them as self-appearances, and practice the inseparability of equanimity and subsequent attainment, then one will be liberated into the Sambhogakaya in the bardo. If one is not liberated there, then due to karma and bad habits, the confused appearances of Yama, fear, and fleeing and chasing will occur.

If one remembers the great Orgyen of Bashar, merges body, speech, and mind with him, and prays intensely as before, one will be liberated from the deluded appearances of the bardo, or liberated into the realm of the self-nature Nirmanakaya, or liberated from evil rebirths in the Sipa Bardo, and obtain a pure body basis. This is according to the five bardos oral transmission from the Northern Treasures. It is said that the six root verses of the bardo should be recited. The five bardos are: First, the bardo called the "Bardo of Natural Abiding," which refers to the time between the initial delusion and the present encounter with the Dharma. For this, the key instruction of realizing the view is needed. Second, the "Bardo of Samadhi," which refers to the time between turning away from deluded appearances and being able to meditate on the meaning of Dharmata. For this, the key instruction of cutting through meditation is needed. Third, the "Bardo of Dream," which refers to the time between falling asleep and not waking up. For this, the key instruction of mastering dream practice is needed. Fourth, the "Bardo of Birth and Death," which refers to the time between the moment of death and the cessation of breath. For this, the key instruction of recognizing wisdom is needed. Fifth, the "Bardo of Becoming," which refers to the time between dying, fainting, and regaining consciousness, and not entering the womb. For this, the key instruction of obtaining the result is needed. The detailed explanations of these are clearly explained in the Northern Treasure Dzogchen Five Bardos Oral Transmission Introduction, so please refer to that text for details. The six root verses of the bardo are from Karma Lingpa's profound treasure, the Bardo Thodol (Liberation Through Hearing in the Bardo): "Alas! When the Bardo of Birth and Place dawns for me, since life is short, having abandoned laziness, without distraction, enter the path of hearing, thinking, and meditating. Transform appearances and mind into the path, manifest the three kayas." And so forth, as explained. Thus, in the practice section of the Guru Yonten Dzö, this explanation of the thirteen precious key instructions of the Prayer Path Yonten Dzö is written by Gelong Pema Trinley at the request of Kushab Dratsang, by Gelong Drampawa Lobsang Ngawang, who needed an easy-to-understand commentary. May it be virtuous! The Clarifier of the Prayer Path Yonten Dzö, Pema Trinley.
