Renouncing the three poisons of attachment, hatred, and delusion is praised as the supreme of all ascetic practices. Renouncing the three poisons of attachment, hatred, and delusion is praised as the supreme of all ascetic practices. Again, thus I have heard at one time, people do not come to the end of their lives by wasting them on trivial matters. It is difficult to please all of you who claim to be patient without meditation. It is necessary because being patient without the merit of meditation is like being a servant of immeasurable worth. Therefore, retreats, vows of silence, and applying oneself diligently are not all ascetic practices. Why? Because one must engage in the ascetic practice of abandoning the three poisons of affliction: attachment, hatred, and delusion. To that end, even when considering vows as having a basis, one must base them solely on the mind of renunciation. Therefore, from the words of the Bhagavan: "Commit no evil." This is the Pratimoksha. "Accumulate perfect virtue." This is the Bodhisattva vow. "Subdue your own mind." This is the Samaya of Secret Mantra. "This is the teaching of the Buddha." Thus, it is condensed into three lines. Furthermore, by guarding morality with a mind of renunciation, the result is the arising of Samadhi of Shamatha. There is no need for protection other than that. Samadhi does not go beyond these three. By not being attached to these three, one is liberated from the three realms. Therefore, for the sake of abandoning desire, the Dharma teaches the liberation of the mind and the liberation of wisdom. Likewise, for the sake of abandoning hatred and delusion, the Dharma teaches the liberation of the mind and the liberation of wisdom. Merely abandoning desire is itself liberation from the bonds of desire. Similarly, hatred and delusion are the same; whatever is abandoned is what it is called. Thus it is said. Therefore, whatever method there is for abandoning these three must be abandoned through the three: view, meditation, and conduct. In terms of view, follow the footsteps of the noble teacher. "Attachment, hatred, and delusion, the actions they create are unwholesome." Therefore, abandoning the unwholesome is the view. In terms of meditation, among beings, attachment is great, medium, or small. The small meditate on their own body as an impure substance, the medium meditate similarly on something like a beautiful woman, and the great...

Having gone to the charnel ground, one should abandon attachment to beautiful corpses and the practice of viewing swollen and decaying corpses. In the past, a renunciate named Sravaka, who had passed away from a hermit, was on the path of alms-seeking when he became attached to a beautiful corpse. After obtaining food, he returned there. Meditating by the corpse, he saw it swelling and decaying, with many beings and impurities flowing out, and thus generated a mind free from attachment. Afterwards, he meditated in the mountains and rocks, and attained a mind free from desire, which is what is needed. In terms of conduct, one should observe as much as a yoke, as well as the five branches of meditation, and the three lion postures, which are said to be antidotes to the three poisons. The Buddha also sat with his legs crossed in the lotus position, his body upright like a scale, because this is the reason for placing the mind in front. All the 'chew chew' and 'chook chook' etc. in the Vinaya are liberated by this. Therefore, conduct is asceticism with the seven types of individual liberation vows. To counteract desire, one meditates on ugliness. Furthermore, to counteract anger, there are three levels of meditating on loving-kindness: lower, middle, and higher. By meditating on one's mother, anger will decrease; by meditating on a yidam, it is medium; by meditating on one's guru, it is higher. Among these, first think that even though I have done well, the person who does wrong in return is not someone else, but does so because of their evil karma. There is no better place to go than the three lower realms, and the suffering of the three lower realms is unbearable and long-lasting. There is no one else to protect them other than me. Thinking of these five reasons, generate compassion and recite compassion. First, if compassion arises, then compassion will come with the bodies of one hundred or two hundred sentient beings. Then, it arises through reciting a lot. If anger arises no matter what, straighten the body, look at the sky to the right with the left eye, tighten the body and mind, place the left palm on the left thigh, and extend the right index finger as if an Indian is learning to write, then anger will quickly subside, and compassion will arise. This seems to arise easily as soon as one enters the door of the Dharma. The most difficult time, it took twenty-three days of recitation. Similarly, when sleeping, if you sleep face down, ignorance arises; if you sleep on your back, desire arises; left
