The Conclusion of Refutation. The Conclusion of Refutation. Secondly, there are three parts to the conclusion of refutation. First, the refutation of the support and the supported: The self is not in the aggregates, nor are those aggregates in the self. For what reason? If there were otherness, then here, this thought would arise, but that otherness is not there, therefore here it is just delusion. The self is not present in the manner of being supported by the aggregates, nor are those aggregates present in the manner of being supported by the self. If there were otherness, like a trough and yogurt, then the thought of support and supported would arise here. But the aggregates and the self are without otherness, therefore, thinking of them as support and supported is merely conceptual imputation. Second, the refutation of possessing qualities and the nature of qualities: The self does not possess form, because it does not exist. The meaning of possession has no connection, because with "possessing" and "having form," it is spoken of as different and not different. The form of the self is different from that, because it does not exist. The self is not combined with the aggregates such as form, like this. The word "possessing," like the saying "Devadatta possesses a cow," in that case, the word "possessing" is spoken of in relation to a different entity. Like the saying "Devadatta has form," in that case, the word "possessing" is spoken of in relation to a non-different entity. But the self and form, etc., as previously stated, have no distinction of being the same or different entities, therefore there is no need to connect the word "possessing." Third, showing the aspects of the view of the perishable aggregate: Form is not the self, the self does not possess form. The self is not in form, form is not in the self. Thus, it should be known, in the four aspects, all the aggregates. Those who grasp them as the self are called the twenty views of self. Form is not the self, because the nature of the self and form are contradictory. Like a man and a necklace, the self also does not possess form, because they do not have otherness. Like a lion in a mountain crevice, the self also does not dwell following form, like Devadatta's wealth, form also cannot be an object of free transformation in the self. Thus, it should be known that in all the aggregates of the four names, in the four ways, there is no self. Thus, the five aggregates are without self, and the four ways that contradict what has been said, grasping as the self, is the view of self or the view of the perishable aggregate, which is called the twenty views of self. If the scriptures say: Not the aggregate, not other than the aggregate, in that
