Then, would desire and attachment, like a cow and a horse, become mutually independent differences? If the two of them become mutually independent differences, then would the two of them also exist simultaneously? These two are not established as mutually independent, therefore the two of them do not have simultaneity. If, again, simultaneity is not seen in the case of non-establishment of difference, if desire and attachment, become established as difference, if you think they are established, then why do you completely contemplate their simultaneity? In order to establish desire and attachment, why do you completely contemplate their simultaneity? Because the establishment of difference itself makes them established. If again, because it is not the establishment of difference, therefore you want simultaneity, if desire and attachment are not established as difference, therefore if you want them to exist simultaneously, then that also does not exist in the case of non-establishment of difference. In order to strongly establish simultaneity, do you also want difference? That is, you must want mutually independent difference, like this. Because it is not a different thing, therefore it will not establish a simultaneous thing. Here, like a cow and a horse, independent differences are called simultaneous existence, because it is not a thing of mutually independent difference, therefore it will not establish a simultaneous thing. This shows that simultaneous existence must depend on difference. The establishment of difference must depend on simultaneous existence, this is admission and combination: If there is a different thing, then it will want a simultaneous thing. If desire and attachment exist as independent differences, wanting a simultaneous thing, then the different thing that does not depend on the simultaneous thing does not exist, because the establishment of the two differences must depend on simultaneous existence. Therefore, establishment is mutually dependent, so neither will be established. The third is: Thus, desire and attachment, neither simultaneous nor non-simultaneous will be established. Thus, if analyzed, desire and attachment, simultaneous and non-simultaneous, will not be established in any order, so truly, the two of them are not established. Second, comparing this reason with others: Greed

Just like attachment, all phenomena do not exist simultaneously or non-simultaneously. Just as it was said before that attachment and clinging cannot be established by reason, so too, all phenomena such as hatred and aversion, ignorance and delusion, should be understood as not existing simultaneously or non-simultaneously. Therefore, the Bhagavan said: "What is attachment, to what is there attachment, by what is there attachment; what is hatred, to what is there hatred, by what is there hatred; what is ignorance, to what is there ignorance, by what does ignorance arise—that dharma is not truly seen, and that dharma is not perceived," and so on. This concludes the commentary on the sixth chapter, the analysis of attachment and clinging, from the Root Wisdom of the Middle Way. Explanation of Chapter Six.
