Even those who abide in meditative absorption will temporarily cause the perception of form and the perception of obstruction to completely cease. Similarly, if after becoming accustomed to meditating on the eight liberations, the overcoming spheres, and the spheres of exhaustion, there is still a perception of form, then for Mahayana yogis who meditate on the emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness of things as their own nature for countless eons, and who abide in the perfection of meditation, what need is there to say that they will grasp at form? This is not reasonable. In the Madhyamakahṛdaya it also says: Therefore, blue colors, square shapes, the eight aggregates, and fine and coarse things, whatever characteristics of form are distinguished by differences, all those that have been thoroughly examined, should be understood as having been refuted by means of reasoning. Fourth, if the elements produce the form of the fruit, do they produce a fruit that is the same as themselves or different? Neither is reasonable. To say that the fruit is the same as the cause is not reasonable. To say that the fruit is different from the cause is also not reasonable. It is not reasonable for the form of the fruit to be the same as the form of the cause, because the nature of the elements is solidity, moisture, warmth, and motion, while the form of the fruit, such as the sense organs like the eye, is the clear form that is the basis of eye consciousness and so on, and external forms such as sound are the characteristics of the objects taken by eye consciousness and so on, therefore their characteristics are different. It is also not reasonable to say that the fruit is different from the cause, because things with different characteristics, like samsara and nirvana, cannot be cause and effect. Second, comparing this principle to other things, there are two aspects: things and reasons that are the same. The first aspect is: Feeling, perception, and formation, consciousness and all things, in all aspects, are similar in order to form itself. The remaining four aggregates, such as feeling, and all things such as characteristics, bases, parts, and things with parts, should also be applied in the same order as the analysis of form, in the same order as the refutation. For example, the cause of feeling is

Belongs to. Feeling cannot become an object of focus. From "Therefore, the nature of feeling, nothing should be examined," etc., all are combined and explained. Second, why are the other skandhas also the same as the order of examining form? When challenged by emptiness, whoever answers and argues, that is not a complete answer, it will be the same as what needs to be established. For those who say that form is established by its own nature, when challenged and refuted by emptiness with "except for the cause of form," etc., if someone answers that form exists because feeling and other skandhas exist, then his entire answer is not a complete answer, because the existence of feeling, etc., is the same as the existence of form that needs to be established. For example, just as form is not established from its own cause as self or other, similarly, feeling produced by the condition of contact, and perception together with consciousness, and action produced by the condition of ignorance, and consciousness produced by the condition of action, if examined from their own causes as self or other, they cannot be established. Just as this reason is stated when refuting the views of others, it is the same when explaining, so it is said. When explained by emptiness, whoever points out faults and argues, his entire argument is not pointing out faults, it will be the same as what needs to be established. When explained by emptiness, if someone like a disciple points out that form exists because feeling and others exist, then his entire argument is not pointing out faults, because it will be the same as what needs to be established, as before. The Madhyamika says that if one dharma is said to be empty, then all are the same as it, therefore no one can answer or refute, that is the meaning. In this way, it is also said in the Akasagarbha Sutra: "By one dharma, all dharmas are known to be like illusions, like cataracts, without anything to be taken, without anything to be accumulated, false and impermanent, if one can thus realize, one will soon attain the heart of bodhi." Just like this is said. The chapter on the examination of skandhas in the Root Wisdom of the Middle Way.
