Explanation of Chapter Four. Explanation of Chapter Four. Chapter Four: Examining the Aggregate of Form. It has two parts: stating the previous view and refuting it. The first part is: If the faculties exist, it is because the five aggregates exist, and the faculties are included in them. If so, then refute it. It has two parts: refuting the aggregate of form, and comparing this method to other aggregates. The first part has four parts: generally refuting the form of cause and effect, specifically refuting the form of cause, summarizing the meaning of the refutation, and showing other ways of refutation. The first part is: "If the cause of form is absent, form will not appear, If there is no so-called form, the cause of form will also be absent." The cause of form is the elements such as earth, because they are the cause of producing the form of the fruit. Form is the form of the fruit, namely the five objects and the five faculties. If the cause of form, namely the elements such as earth, is absent, the form of the fruit will not appear separately. If the form of the fruit, namely form, sound, etc., is absent, the cause of form, namely the elements, will also not appear separately. Why? "If the cause of form is absent, there is no cause of form in form, Then it becomes a fault of being without cause, where is there no cause anywhere?" Just as cloth and a vase are different things, and cloth is not the cause of the vase, if the form of the fruit exists separately from the cause of form, namely the elements, then the form of the fruit becomes without cause. Because it is a different thing from the elements, it does not depend on it, and there is no other cause. Nothing can be without a cause, otherwise it will become either always existing or never existing. Therefore, we do not admit form that is separate from the cause. Similarly, there is no cause of form, namely the elements, that is separate from the form of the fruit. If: "If there is no so-called form, then there is a cause of form, Then it becomes a cause without fruit, and a cause without fruit does not exist." If there is a cause of form that is different from the form of the fruit, then just as a vase is different from cloth, and a vase is not the cause of cloth.

Just as that, the cause-form different from the effect-form is its cause, if the cause of form is arising, it becomes a cause without effect. The cause referred to by the name of cause depends on the effect, so there is no cause without effect. Second, if these arising of earth and so on are considered as the cause of the effect-form, then is it considered that the effect-form exists or does not exist? Neither of the two is reasonable. If the form exists, then the cause of the form is also impossible to be reasonable. If the form does not exist, then the cause of the form is also impossible to be reasonable. Even if the effect-form exists, the arising of the cause of the form cannot be reasonable as a producer, because it already exists and there is no need. Even if the effect-form does not exist, the cause of the form cannot be reasonable as a producer, because it cannot establish what does not exist. If it is thought that even so, the cause of the form cannot exist, but the effect-form does exist, then the form without cause is impossible to be reasonable, it is impossible to be reasonable. How is the cause of the form explained? Therefore, the effect-form without cause is impossible to be reasonable, that is unreasonable, because it has not been seen that way, and it is not desired that way. Saying "impossible to be reasonable, it is impossible to be reasonable" with two negations with certainty, is to show that without cause is extremely inferior. Third, therefore, for the conceptualization of form, do not conceptualize anything. Because if you analyze form in that way, it is without self-nature, therefore, yogis, those who see reality, have shown existence and non-existence, obstruction and non-obstruction, past and future, blue and yellow, etc., for the conceptualization that takes form as its object, do not conceptualize anything. Here, the Vaibhashikas say, because by taking arising as the cause, there will arise twenty kinds of forms of the nature of color and shape, so arising is only existent in nature. For what is called the form-sphere, it is established by conceptual imputation, it is not real, because if those are real, then the worldly yogis, the sphere of infinite space, and the sphere of infinite consciousness, and the door of attainment of nothingness
