The Chapter on the Goddess Mandarava Obtaining the Flesh of a Brahmin's Body. The Chapter on the Goddess Mandarava Obtaining the Flesh of a Brahmin's Body. Then, the Zahor King Tseg Lhag Dzin (Skt: Śikhara-dhara), was very uneasy and couldn't sleep: (92a) This daughter seems to have many enemies. If I give her to one king, the others will be unhappy. Or, if there were ten daughters like this, giving one to each would satisfy them. Or, even without these, they might be satisfied. What should I do now? He consulted with ten inner ministers, and they agreed: Ask the daughter herself and give her to whomever she likes. After deciding, the king summoned the goddess. The king said, "Decide where you want to go and tell me. I will give her to whomever she likes." The goddess immediately filled with tears, crying a lot, and said she didn't want to go anywhere. The father said, "What good is it if you say you don't want to go? The suitors have blocked all the doors outside. Take three days to think about it, and then bring me the answer." The goddess went to the top of the palace, where she stayed with three servants. Day and night, she observed and thought: If the basis is ruined, one will not be born in the three lower realms; even if the basis is not ruined, one will be born as a woman. Even if only half human, one can still practice for enlightenment. If the continent is ruined, one will not be born in a great or small continent; if the continent is not ruined, one will be born in Jambudvipa. If the place is ruined, one will not be born in Mon (Bhutan) and Mleccha (foreign lands); if the place is not ruined, one will be born in the Zahor region. If the faculties are ruined, one will not be born with defects; (92b) if the faculties are not ruined, one will be born without defects and beautiful. If the mind is ruined, one will not be possessed by demons; if the wisdom is not ruined, one will attain freedom. If the karma is ruined, one will not engage in sinful deeds; if the karma is not ruined, one will be interested in Dharma. If the lineage is ruined, one will not be born as a daughter of a low lineage; if the lineage is not ruined, one will be born as a king's daughter. Now, even though I have become a woman, I have a good lineage, fruitful results, great wealth, and kings are vying for me. All of this comes from practicing the Dharma in previous lives. If I don't practice Dharma this time, I don't know what kind of body I will take in the next life, and it will be very difficult to encounter the Dharma. Abandon actions that lead to bad karma, and without abandoning, perfect the Dharma. The goddess thought, "May my wishes be fulfilled." In the midst of perfect suffering, I bear the burden of sins alone.

Therefore, one must reside here: even if one wants to leave, one cannot be autonomous, and the wish is in vain. No matter how virtuous the master is, he is only a lifelong companion, a pitiful ox adorned with gold. No matter how virtuous I am, I am only a mother dog with all the fine ornaments. The mouth and hands are never idle for a moment, indulging in confused affairs in vain. When I have autonomy, I think I should practice the Dharma. (93a) The princess went to her father and said: I do not want to stay in a family that is painful in this life and the next. If I can be autonomous, I will practice the sacred Dharma. If I cannot be autonomous, I will abandon this body and pray that I can obtain a body to practice the Dharma in the next life. After saying this, the king was very displeased and placed the princess among five hundred maids, not allowing her to leave the palace. If she escapes or commits suicide, the five hundred maids will be fed to the dogs alive. This was a warning to the maids. According to the king's custom, each concubine took turns residing in the palace, one night per bed, taking turns to prepare meals and serve carefully. When it was the turn of the older concubine Hawuji, because relatives from all sides demanded too much, the meat was exhausted, and there was no meat skin to prepare the meals. There was no other way to buy meat, and the princess was sent to buy meat at the market. Because of the heavy rain, the market was not open. On the way back, she saw an eight-year-old boy dead. After the rain washed it clean, only a pile of bones remained. The princess carefully collected all the bones, put them in a container, and brought them back to the palace. The concubine asked, "Did you find meat?" The princess replied, "I found it, you cook it." The princess cooked the meat and repeatedly skimmed off the foam. (93b) After adding many spices, she said, "Mother, the meat is cooked, please offer it to the king." The concubine offered the cooked meat to the king. When the king was digesting the food, the king's body felt pleasure burning like fire, rising a cubit from the seat, almost flying into the sky like a bird. In this way, he recognized that this was the meat of seven lifetimes. The king wanted to speak like a mute, making the sound of "Hawuji," and then ordered, "Concubine, come before me!" He grabbed the concubine's hair with his left hand, and with his right hand, he held a small knife and stabbed it in, stabbing from the chin, lifting her head like lifting her nose, and said, "What you offered me this morning"
