By giving unselfishly to all sentient beings, the merit gained will increase twofold, equal to the number of sentient beings. Offering this to all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas will increase the merit even more. If one purifies with profound wisdom, clinging to the three spheres (giver, receiver, and gift), then the virtue created is with attachment. Therefore, it cannot transcend samsara, just like eating delicious food mixed with poison. The Victorious Ones say that clinging to white dharma is also like that. Therefore, without clinging to the characteristics of real existence or the characteristics of negation, but dedicating everything to the wisdom of discernment, the virtue becomes pure. The *Compendium* says: 'If there is no clinging to characteristics, then it is dedication to enlightenment.' If one wants to increase the accumulated virtue, but does not seal it with bodhicitta, then the virtue will be exhausted. If one generates great wrong views, even the smallest virtue will be destroyed. The *Treasury of Knowledge* says: 'By viewing as non-existent, one cuts off the root.' If one generates anger towards a sacred object, then even the virtue accumulated over thousands of kalpas will be destroyed. The *Bodhicharyavatara* says: 'All the good deeds accumulated over thousands of kalpas, such as generosity, offerings to the Sugatas, etc., are destroyed by a single moment of anger.' Even extraordinary virtue, if dedicated in the wrong way, becomes meaningless and a cause of suffering. If proclaimed with arrogance, it is said to be exhausted through confession. Even if these things do not happen, if it is not dedicated to enlightenment, then the virtue will be exhausted after producing its respective fruits. The *Sutra* says: 'The root of virtue is to embrace the mind of enlightenment and dedicate it to unsurpassed enlightenment, so that it may increase.' Therefore, what needs to be dedicated is all virtuous roots, both contaminated and uncontaminated. The *Compendium* says: 'For the virtues of those in training and those beyond training, whether defiled or undefiled, gather them all together, then rejoice in the Bodhisattvas, and dedicate everything to enlightenment for the benefit of beings.' The cause of accomplishing dedication is to possess discipline and make aspirations; the main cause of accomplishment is the strong intention: 'May I obtain such a result through this cause.' According to the strength of the intention, the results obtained will vary in size. Dedication is for the attainment of omniscience. The purpose of dedication is not for the benefit of oneself or a few, but for the benefit of all sentient beings. The intention of dedication is: 'May I attain enlightenment for the benefit of others by relying on this conventional virtue.' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Through a strong aspiration that combines the wisdom of emptiness in the three spheres in both the mundane and ultimate senses, please grant your blessings that I may realize this! This was composed in an easy-to-understand manner by Padma Dkarpo (White Lotus) at the request of 'Gro mgon bla ma rgya mtsho (All-Knowing Guru Rinpoche). The concise ritual is very brief; adding some elements makes it a medium-length ritual; stating everything makes it an extensive ritual. When combining various rituals, this point is crucial; it is a detailed explanation of the essence. Regarding the fulfillment of intent, auspiciousness, and the dedication for the deceased, the extensive, medium, and concise dedications can all be understood from the excellent teachings of the Lord (referring to Je Tsongkhapa). For appropriate verbal expressions, the wise should understand well. If one wishes to elaborate in more detail, quoting many reasons and scriptures is more profound.
