Collection of Teachings by Omniscient Pema Karpo PK307: The Wheel of Enjoyment of Dedication's Benefits The Wheel of Enjoyment of Dedication's Benefits On this occasion, the patron of generosity, towards the supports of body, speech, and mind of the Thus-Gone One (Tathāgata), offers with a cloud-like mass of Samantabhadra's offerings, raises the banner of monastic robes for the Buddha's teachings, invites the Sangha (community of monks), and pleases them with faultless offerings in accordance with the Dharma. This very act is the source of all well-being. May those who uphold the Buddha's teachings through explanation and practice, through gain and respect, abide long in all times and directions. May the Buddha's teachings become the excellent garden of the teacher. From now on, may they become incomparable benefactors, the masters of great compassion beyond measure. May the mountain of the body of our glorious and precious Lama (Guru) and all upholders of the teachings be firm, may their activities and enlightened actions increase, and may all the benefit and happiness of beings, including gods, flourish. For the sake of fulfilling this special intention, for the sake of all sentient beings, led by the patron of generosity and their retinue, in all circumstances, may all adverse harms be pacified, may all perfections such as life and prosperity be easily accomplished, and may they attain perfect Buddhahood. Or, in order to be liberated from the suffering of the intermediate state (Bardo) and other sufferings indicated by the goal, from the suffering of suffering, the suffering of change, and the suffering of conditioning, and to attain the state of ultimate Nirvana, therefore, it is very important to expand the vast roots of virtue with dedication and aspiration. Therefore, with the wish that by relying on this cause, such a result may be obtained, transforming the desired result of that cause, is dedication. Whether the cause is manifested or not, in general, the wish to obtain the desired result, along with the corresponding aspiration, is a small dedication, a vast aspiration. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thus, the instruction on dedicating to Bodhi is: Panchen Buddhashri said, 'Accumulate the merits of the Three Jewels, increase them with vast means, purify them with profound wisdom, and augment them with the union dedication.' Therefore, the Three Jewels are: the supreme place, which is the field of giving; the supreme object, which is the substance of offering; and the supreme intention, which is to take hold with the mind of Bodhi. First, as it is said in 'Entering the Bodhisattva's Way of Life': 'In the field of merit and the field of benefiting, merit increases greatly for those who are suffering.' Therefore, the field of merit is the Three Jewels, the field of benefiting is the Victorious One (referring to the Buddha), as well as virtuous friends and companions, and the field of suffering is the sick, the helpless, and those facing the threat of death, and so on. Second, as it is said in 'Compendium of Abhidharma': 'The object of giving is not taken from others, the object of giving is not obtained through harm, the object of giving is not impure and without defilement, the object of giving is lawful, and the object of giving is obtained through Dharma.' Third, as it is said in 'Entering the Bodhisattva's Way of Life': 'Free from all discriminations, with a mind of giving, giving to all beings, is said to be the perfection of giving, thus, that is the generation of the mind.' As it is said, 'The difference between the field and the intention is the karma of the fruit of the visible Dharma.' And 'The karma of experiencing the result in the present Dharma has power, it is the arising of the field and the intention.' Increasing with vast means, the intention is important, not the object; the greater the intention, the greater the merit. Therefore, the place is vast, visualizing the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas of the ten directions, Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, etc., as dense as clouds in the space in front. The accumulator is vast, visualizing that all beings, with oneself as the leader, are practicing. The method of accumulation is vast, if one practices the seven-branch offering of all beings, then the merit equal to the number of beings will increase, as it is said in 'Compendium of Trainings': 'Thus, like the realm of beings, infinite merit also arises.' In particular, taking hold with the intention of seeking to attain Bodhi for the benefit of others will further increase merit, as it is said in 'That Treatise': 'The mind of Bodhi, in brief, is the cause of increasing merit.' And in the 'Sutra Requested by Glorious Giving': 'All the merits of beings, as many as their aggregates and realms are held, so many Bodhisattvas, the mind of Bodhi greatly increases.' The roots of virtue that increase in this way. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
