Collection of Teachings by the Omniscient Pema Karpo PK94: The History of Arya Simhanada The History of Arya Simhanada The History of Arya Simhanada The History of Arya Simhanada. In the past, in a world realm, Manjushri was known as the Great Wisdom Bodhisattva, and Avalokiteshvara was known as the Supreme Compassionate One. These two descended to benefit sentient beings in the three thousand worlds. They subdued a white lion as their mount, adorned their bodies with various precious ornaments, and carried a trident, a sword, a lotus, and an utpala flower. While crossing the great ocean, they took turns carrying the lion. However, the Great Wisdom Bodhisattva, out of a benevolent heart to help his friend, killed himself with his own sword. The Supreme Compassionate Bodhisattva thought, 'Was he killed by the nagas and gods of the upper, lower, and intermediate spaces?' So he held a Brahmin's skull cup for drinking, held a trident, rode a white lion, tied his hair in a topknot in sorrow, and glared at the gods above. He acted for the benefit of sentient beings with the power of compassion. He said, 'My own friend has abandoned me, and I am left alone. If all the gods are at fault, it will be a punishable deed. I will destroy cities and kill the gods!' Having spoken thus, he pointed the trident at the gods. The Four Great Kings, Indra, Brahma, the lord of the Sahā world, and the gods of the three realms offered joyful radiance, offering lotus flowers, water lilies, white lotuses, champaka flowers, and so on, filling the skull cup. Similarly, he tormented the eight classes in between. The Naga King Tsugna Rinchen, the Gandharva King Zurpud Ngapa, the Yaksha King Namthose's son, the Asura King Thagzang Ris, the Kinnara King Jönpa Tamago Chen, the Kumbhanda King with nine snake heads, and the Garuda King with golden eyes, along with many attendants, offered joyful radiance and presented precious ornaments to the lion. Then, he glared at the nagas dwelling beneath the earth, saying, 'Acting for the benefit of sentient beings with the power of compassion, my own friend has abandoned me, and I am left alone. If all the nagas are at fault, it will be a punishable deed. I will destroy cities and kill the nagas!' Having spoken thus, he pointed the trident at the great ocean. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The earth shook, and the Dragon King Anavatapta (Tibetan: མ་དྲོས་པ་, literally: not warmed) and the Dragon King Varuna (Tibetan: ཝ་རུ་ཎ་, Sanskrit Devanagari: वरुण, Sanskrit Romanization: Varuna, Chinese literal meaning: Water God) and the Dragon King Rawo, etc., These beings with magical powers, endowed with light, who have experienced the battles of gods and asuras, six hundred thousand dragon kings and their retinues gathered together, filled with joy, and the Dragon King Varuna transformed into a white snake, prostrated, circumambulated three times, and said: 'Compassionate Bodhisattva! I take refuge in you! Please be the protector of all dragons! If we break our vows, please be the executioner of the dragons!' Having said this, he twirled the trident (Sanskrit: Trishula) three times, pointing it towards the Bodhisattva, uttering 'ཕུཿཕུཿ', and remained there, spitting blood from his mouth. The other dragon kings also joined their palms, circumambulated three times, and said: 'Compassionate Bodhisattva! We take refuge in you! Please protect all dragons! If we break our vows, please be the executioner of the dragons!' Having said this, the eight great dragon kings transformed into a white snake, entwined around the Brahma cord. Those dragon kings also said: 'We will be your servants! We will listen to your commands!' Having said this, the dragons each returned to their respective abodes. This is called 'Compassionate Taming of the Dragons.'
