Collected Teachings of Ngawang Kunga Sonam ANK178, A Text Explaining the Condensed System of Outer and Inner Great Places of Anuttarayoga. 15-585 A Text Explaining the Condensed System of Outer and Inner Great Places of Anuttarayoga. Namo Buddhadvajaye! Here, I will briefly explain the system of outer and inner great places of Anuttarayoga. The system of the twenty-four places is explained in the root tantra of Chakrasamvara. The system of the twenty-eight great places is explained in the Mahamudra Tilaka. The system of thirty-two is from the Hevajra root tantra. The system of forty-eight is explained in the Chakrasamvara Samgraha. Such various different explanations are merely classifications based on the levels of individuals' minds. As the venerable teacher Tsemoy said: 'The collection of seventy-two thousand such places into thirty-two places, and then the collection of those thirty-two places into twenty-four places, then into twelve, and then into eight, is done in accordance with the dispositions of individuals.' Therefore, regarding the thirty-two places mentioned in Hevajra, there are two views: one that accepts them as literally thirty-two, and another that combines them into two places. The latter is the view held by the Sakya father and sons. 15-586 The Sambhuti says: 'The place is a very joyful place, likewise the nearby place is without impurity. The field should be known as illuminating, the nearby field as radiating light, the chandoha is the manifested one, the nearby chandoha is difficult to tame, the gathering is a long-lasting one, the nearby gathering is unmoving, the charnel ground is excellent wisdom, the nearby charnel ground is a cloud of dharma. In the places of the ten perfections, the yoginis speak in barbarian languages. What was said to Sula and others, should be contemplated inwardly and outwardly.' This explains by combining common and uncommon names and meanings. It is held that the root knots of four great places must be untied in the first and second grounds, and that the root knots of two places must be untied from the third to the tenth grounds. Then, regarding the eleventh and twelfth, in the Kumuti commentary on the Root Tantra, Second Chapter, a quote from the Tantra Hundred Thousand is cited, where it also appears in the Abhidhana. 'Drinking is unparalleled wisdom, nearby drinking is great wisdom.' Therefore, the remaining two grounds require four places. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is believed that the knots of the channels need to be untied. Regarding the school that considers the thirty-two sounds as they are, there are: the word explanations of Manriwa, Lama Ngokpa and others, and the explanations of the root tantra 'The Immaculate Union'. Regarding the method of how Jetsun Sakya school combines the thirty-two great lands with the grounds: Oddiyana, Jalandhara, Kolagiri, and Kamarupa, these four are combined with the first ground. Similarly, Malawa, Sindhu, Nagara, and the number of Chakpa, these four are combined with the second ground. Mummuni and Devikota, these two are combined with the third ground. Kuluta and Arbuda, these two are combined with the fourth ground. Harikela and Gotavari, these two are combined with the fifth ground. Lamba and Kanci, these two are combined with the sixth ground. The number of actions and Golden Island, these two are combined with the seventh ground. Konkana and Vindhya, these two are combined with the eighth ground. Rab song ge dun and the seashore, these two are combined with the ninth ground. Caritra and the city of youth, these two are combined with the tenth ground. The city, namely Kashmir; the outskirts, namely Mon country; Lancha Tso Kye and Soso Rashtra, these four are combined with the eleventh ground. Himalaya, Kosala, Kalinga, and the garden, these four are combined with the twelfth ground. Thus, if these thirty-two outer lands are combined with the thirty-two lands of the inner Vajra body, then the four included by the first ground are: the crown of the head, the topknot, the perineum, and the eyebrows. The four included by the second ground are: the tip of the nose, the eyes, the ears, and the mouth. The two included by the third ground are: the throat and the neck. The two included by the fourth ground are: the spine and the breasts. The two included by the fifth ground are: the heart center and the navel. The two included by the sixth ground are: the inside of the secret place and the center of the sign. The two included by the seventh ground are: the tip of the sign and the anus. The two included by the eighth ground are: the thighs and the knees. The two included by the ninth ground are: the calves and the ankles. The two included by the tenth ground are: the toes and the thumbs. The four included by the eleventh ground are: the shoulders, the soles of the feet, and the two channels on the sides of the heart center. The four included by the twelfth ground are: the back of the neck, the waist, and the other two channels on the sides of the heart center. Here it is said: By diligently engaging in the profound yoga of the generation and completion stages, one quickly traverses the thirty-two great outer and inner lands, combining them with the indestructible fruit. This near path of the Vajra Vehicle is truly wondrous! The current Dharma seat is the glorious Sakya. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
