Having written it down, I shall conceal it as a precious treasure. May those with fortune and karma utilize it! Samaya! Seal, seal, seal! First, the preliminary preparations are as follows: In the four directions of the mandala, construct fire pits for the four activities. In the east, for pacifying, a circular pit, one cubit in width; white in color, one cubit in height; with two legs and three tiers, adorned with a white vajra on top. White firewood is piled up in a circular fashion, and anointed with fragrant incense and medicines. The substances to be burned are the three white and three sweet substances, white sesame seeds, and precious substances for pacifying, such as silver, conch shells, and crystals. The torma is white in color and adorned with ornaments. On the white wood, write down the eight fears to be pacified, and the mantra Śāntiṃ Kuru (Sanskrit Devanagari: शान्तिं कुरु, Sanskrit Romanization: Śāntiṃ kuru, Literal Chinese meaning: Pacify, Do) and prayers of aspiration. In the south, for increasing, a yellow, square pit, one cubit in width and one cubit in height. Four tiers of steps, adorned with jewels on top. On the square, yellow wood, anoint with saffron and other fragrant substances. The substances to be burned are grains and various precious substances. The torma is yellow and arranged with ornaments. On the yellow wood, write down the six perfections for increasing, and the mantra Puṣṭiṃ Kuru (Sanskrit Devanagari: पुष्टिं कुरु, Sanskrit Romanization: Puṣṭiṃ kuru, Literal Chinese meaning: Increase, Do) and prayers of aspiration. In the west, for subjugating, a red pit, one cubit in width. Crescent-shaped, one cubit in height. Three tiers of steps, adorned with lotuses on top. Red firewood is piled up in a crescent shape. Anoint with madder and other fragrant medicines. The substances to be burned are red substances and various precious substances. On the red wood, write down the object of subjugation, and the mantra Paśaṃ Kuru (Sanskrit Devanagari: वशं कुरु, Sanskrit Romanization: Vaśaṃ kuru, Literal Chinese meaning: Subjugate, Do) and prayers of aspiration. In the north, for wrathful activity, a black, triangular pit, one cubit in width and one cubit in height. Two tiers of steps, adorned with weapons on top. On the wood for wrathful activity, triangular, anoint with poisonous blood. Pile up triangles, and the substances to be burned are bones. The torma is black, arranged with meat and blood ornaments. Write down poison paper, enemies, effigies of obstructing spirits, and so forth. In the center of the mandala for the four activities, arrange the number of deities, or five hundred, as appropriate.
