The Sword of Knowing that Destroys the Illusions of Mara. The Sword of Knowing that Destroys the Illusions of Mara. Herein lies the treatise called "The Sword of Knowing that Destroys the Illusions of Mara." Holding the sword of wisdom, the bow and arrow, eliminating the battlefield of ignorance and affliction. Homage to the brave warrior who subdues the enemy Mara, the one who dispels the fear of the four Maras. I will explain the instructions for extracting the thorns from the inner mind, which is seized by the various illusions of Mara, dwelling in the net of conceptualization. O wise one, even in your dreams, you run towards happiness, but in this world, who has blocked prosperity? Who is it that throws you into decline? The path of perfect prosperity and decline is used in common in this world. If one enters willingly, who is it that leads one to the place of decline? Burning in hell and so on, the stream of countless unbearable sufferings, if there is a giver without beginning or end, who would not be angry with him? The great demon hides invisibly in the depths, and with his five seals, he constantly torments these three realms of beings, including the gods, as if they were slaves. Even so, beings do not know his nature, and the tool for destroying the illusions of Mara, the one who composes it, has not yet appeared. Introducing downfall with the appearance of high status, and binding oneself by seizing others, one abandons oneself due to the power of bondage. Tormenting others burns oneself, and striking others destroys oneself. Arrogance, attachment, miserliness, anger, and jealousy, these five unbearable illusions of Mara, have bound my mind since ancient times and caused it to decline. Alas, why have I not seen this heap of afflictions that arises naturally in the mind? If I know this truth, even for a moment, I would not want to associate with this great enemy. This illusion is hidden in the darkness of ignorance, and ignorance is dispelled by the light of wisdom. Having taken up the sword of light, after destroying the five seals of Mara, having driven the great demon into the depths, I also want to kill him completely without residue. The object dwells nearby, and it is not abandoning subtle increase, by the power of improper attention, attachment and so on arise and increase. When there is no object, who is attached to whom? When there is no object-possessor, who is attached? How is there attachment when there are no afflictions? Therefore, it should be known that it arises from dependence. To an unreal object, who...

Attachment. The collection of material things arising from objects is a multitude of dust particles, tiny particles. If dust particles are distinguished by their directional parts, their nature is completely separate, existing like condensed bubbles. The mind is of a multiple nature, and even a small part of it, if analyzed, cannot be found anywhere and cannot be grasped. It cannot be seen by the five eyes, so who can be attached to it and how? If one is not attached to each of the many small parts, then there is no other object to be attached to. So what does one cling to and want to grasp? The one who clings is also non-existent, and if one analyzes the object itself, how can one see who is attached to it, as one would with external objects? Therefore, this attachment that one does not want to let go of did not exist before, and will not exist in the future, but is only a sudden occurrence arising from conditions. Its object and the one who clings to it are also momentary because they arise from causes, moving and changing like lightning. Who is attached to whom? Similarly, all objects and those who cling to stinginess, hatred, etc., should be analyzed and destroyed separately in this way. Thus, if one does not find the ultimate nature of things in objects and those who cling to them, then what are the self and others that have become the objects themselves? The non-existent nature is not the self, like space, it has no function. Therefore, this dharma of existence and non-existence is empty of the nature of both self. Thus, in the nature of ultimate truth, like space, there is no attachment, and it is only through the attachment of conceptual thought that so many aggregates arise. Now, for the absence of attachment, for the habitual tendencies of attachment, have faith in this method of pacifying them in the realm of nature. Attachment to that which appears to exist when it does not is very bad, and clinging to what should not be clung to only brings endless suffering. For example, these thirty-six impure substances, through the arrangement of shapes, form the bodies of men, women, etc. Which part do you want to embrace and kiss? In this ocean of blood and excrement, there are countless impure worms. If there is anything worthy of attachment, please point it out. Thus, deceived by the power of attachment, one becomes immersed in the mud of suffering, without any essence to rely on.
