Instructions on the Great Seal Gau, condensed into a method of practice. Translator Dharma Shri. Instructions on the Great Seal Gau, condensed into a method of practice. Translator Dharma Shri. Instructions on the Great Seal Gau, condensed into a method of practice. Oṃ svasti. Om, may there be well-being!). Instructions on the Great Seal Gau, condensed into a method of practice, the preliminaries are the three self-arising, the main practice is the four faults self-liberated, the conclusion is the three kayas self-manifested. First, there are two: taming the mind and the actual method of settling. The first is: with the difficult-to-obtain leisure and endowment, the mindfulness of impermanence, and the unbearable suffering of samsara, urging the mind with renunciation, visualize the dwelling as a pure land. In the space in front, on a lion throne lotus sun and moon cushion, visualize the guru as Vajradhara, the embodiment of all refuge. Oneself and all other sentient beings are frightened by the suffering of samsara, and request protection. Thinking in your heart: Whatever you do, Guru Rinpoche, please have mercy. Thus, recite: Mother-like sentient beings as vast as the sky, I go for refuge to the Guru Rinpoche, the embodiment of all refuge. Recite as much as possible, then the guru dissolves into oneself, and settle in a state of non-fixation. Finally, from the perspective of knowing all sentient beings as kind mothers, with compassion for their helplessness in the face of suffering, guide the mind, and recite: May all mother-like sentient beings as vast as the sky be placed in the state of perfect enlightenment. For this purpose, we practice the profound path of the Great Seal. Thus recite and contemplate its meaning. If the Six Dharmas of Naropa have been practiced beforehand, these are not necessary, it is said. Then there is the purification of the A-syllable emptiness: on the top of one's head, visualize the guru as Vajradhara on top of four stacked seats. With strong devotion, pray: Guru Rinpoche, please pacify my illnesses and evil spirits. Please purify my obscurations. Please cause the special samadhi to arise in my mindstream. After praying in this way, the guru dissolves from the top of one's head, purifying the nature of ignorance in the brain. In the skull, which is like a rainbow tent free from obscurations, in the empty white source of light dharma, the guru and one's own mind are inseparable, the white A-syllable (藏文:ཨ་,梵文天城体:अ,梵文罗马拟音:a,汉语字面意思:A) clearly abides in self-appearance. Silently recite the A-syllable twenty-one times, from the A-syllable nectar arises

With a stream of clear and transparent nectar descending upon the entire body, inside and out, all sins, obscurations, diseases, and demonic influences are transformed into pus and blood, tiny creatures, and smoke, emerging outwards in a dark, swirling mass. Visualize your body as empty, like a wiped crystal ball, and gaze intently at the object of purification, releasing it without attachment. Secondly, the actual method of abiding is as follows: First, visualize a four-tiered seat on the crown of your head, upon which is the Guru Vajradhara. With devotion that makes your hair stand on end and brings tears to your eyes, pray: "Precious Guru, please release me from the clinging to self. Please cause me to generate unnecessary thoughts. Please grant me the realization of the Great Seal of Clear Light." After praying in this way many times, and various signs of attainment arise, the essential points of the body are: with hands in fists placed on the knees, in a posture of pressing down on the earth, in the upright state of the seven-point posture, without applying pressure to the four veins and four points, but relaxing and releasing them, this is the natural state of the body. Keep the lips slightly parted, without smiling or frowning, allowing the breath to flow naturally in and out, this is the natural state of speech. The eyes are dazed, like an elephant drunk on alcohol, without any particular clinging to anything. In this state, separate the mind from the grasping and gathering of the three times and the desire to meditate, cutting it off without artifice and releasing it, this is the natural state of mind. Thus, gather the root of focus into the three natural states, without any particular clinging to anything, cutting it off without attachment and abiding in equanimity. The branches of focus include: increasing and decreasing. The first of these is further divided into: training with support and without support. The first, with support, includes: first, four methods that accord with meditative equipoise; in the middle, three methods for eliminating the faults of dullness and agitation; and finally, four methods related to post-meditation. The first four are: In the natural state, focus intently on a coarse object, such as a vase. Without differentiating the appearances that arise, allow awareness to abide without artifice, so that the appearance of the vase does not cease, and there is no stain of clinging to it, and remain in that state. Similarly, train with small objects, such as a twig or a pebble; train with things that are close, such as the whiteness of a hut; and train with things that are far away, such as a mountaintop, training with anything coarse or fine, near or far, these are the four methods. In the middle, the three methods for eliminating the faults of dullness and agitation are: If awareness is dull and thick, then the way of looking...
