The Reply of Lhatsun Kunzangpa. Rigzin Gyurme Dorje. The Reply of Lhatsun Kunzangpa. Rigzin Gyurme Dorje. The Reply of Lhatsun Kunzangpa. Orgyen Terdak Lingpa. From the mouth of Rigzin Gyurme Dorje. Here, regarding how to practice the profound Dharma Dzogchen, how to do the preliminaries, main practice, and conclusion? It should be known from consulting the texts of each of the Kama and Terma lineages, and receiving experiential instructions from the mouths of lineage-holding lamas. Here, I will briefly explain the recognition of the Dzogchen self-tradition. So, what is Dzog(རྫོག༵ས་,complete) Chen(ཆེེ༵ན་,great) Po(པ༵་,of)? This clear, empty, naked awareness, free from all defilements, is Dzogchenpo. Literally, all the Dharmas included in samsara and nirvana are complete within this empty awareness, therefore it is called Dzogchen. There is no other supreme method for liberation from samsara that is superior to this, therefore it is called Great. What are the three, Ground, Path, and Fruit? The initial state of being, untouched by the minds of samsara and nirvana, unstained by the rust of delusion, therefore the naked state of being, never experienced delusion, never experienced realization, nothing is established, and yet everything can arise, this is called the Ground. Now, relaxing this awareness, in a state of emptiness and clarity, free from good thoughts, bad thoughts, and neutral thoughts, like the center of a clear sky, this is called the Path. When all the qualities of the Path are manifested, and ignorance and delusion are purified in their own place, and Dharmadhatu is manifested, this is called the Fruit. Furthermore, what are View(ལྟ༵་བ་), Meditation(སྒོམ༵་པ་), and Action(སྤྱོད༵་པ་)? Ascertaining where one's own mind is, whether inside or outside, what its color and shape are, etc., the emptiness that is not found is called View. Without letting the View be controlled by sinking, excitement, or dullness, relaxing and abiding, This is called Meditation. Imprinting whatever arises with that meditation, and practicing, this is called Action. Furthermore, what are Tranquility(ཞི༵་གན༵ས་) and Insight(ལྷ༵ག་མཐོ༵ང་)? How are these two combined(ཟུང་དུ༵་འབྲེ༵ལ་)? When the mind's outward scattering is pacified, and it abides inwardly, focused, this is called Tranquility. Recognizing the nature of the abiding mind as clear, empty awareness, this is called Insight. Recognizing the nature from the state of abiding, and abiding focused from the attainment of recognition, this is called Tranquility.

It is said to be the union of the extraordinary. What are co-emergent wisdom and subsequent wisdom? Generally, focusing one's own awareness single-pointedly on this empty clarity is co-emergent wisdom. Arising from that, all phenomena that appear, although they appear, knowing that they are unreal and empty, that is subsequent wisdom. In particular, in the Great Perfection's own system, abiding in the state of knowing the essence of whatever appears, that is co-emergent wisdom; from that state of knowing the essence, the movement is subsequent wisdom. Therefore, on top of the above, cultivating virtuous practice, oneself also abiding in the state of empty clarity, that is co-emergent wisdom; from that state, the part of emanation and transformation that arises is subsequent wisdom. The difference between subsequent attainment and subsequent existence is that the clinging to reality is naturally liberated, which is called objectlessness. What is maintaining the stream of ordinary awareness? From the continuum of the highest Buddha to the continuum of the lowest ordinary being, the awareness that exists, clear and empty, unaltered by any sudden causes, that is called maintaining the stream of ordinary awareness. Recognizing that is called knowing the nature of mind. Maintaining that stream is called maintaining the stream of ordinary awareness. What are the three places of arising, dwelling, and going? Where does the mind first arise from? Where does it dwell in the middle? Where will it go in the end? Searching like this is the meaning of searching for the three places of arising, dwelling, and going. In the end, what is needed is an empty clarity where nothing can be found. What are the three: abiding, moving, and knowing? The nature of all phenomena that appear is clear and empty, without clinging, clearly recognizing that, and abiding in that state, that is abiding. In the state of recognizing the essence, performing emanation and transformation, arising movement from the state of abiding, that is arising movement from the place of abiding. Whether movement arises from the place of abiding, or abiding arises from movement, it is necessary to clearly recognize that it is clear and empty, that is knowing. In short, the three: abiding, moving, and knowing, in terms of meaning, must be said to be one. What is the inseparability of samsara and nirvana? The moment of the appearance of the mind's aspect, that is samsara. The part of the mind's essence that is emptiness, that is nirvana. Samsara and nirvana, in the state of the mind's essence of emptiness, are inseparable, that is called the inseparability of samsara and nirvana. What are looking outward and looking inward? For things that appear like enemies, clinging to the enemy as real. Similarly, for the form (Tibetan: གཟུ༵གས) seen by the eye.
