Mind Training Teachings LJ42: Aspiration of the Great Vehicle - The Excellent Path to Enlightenment Aspiration of the Great Vehicle - The Excellent Path to Enlightenment Aspiration of the Great Vehicle - The Excellent Path to Enlightenment Homage to the Lama! May the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, whose compassion for beings never wanes, consider me! In order to follow in your footsteps from the depths of my heart, please bless these aspirations to be fulfilled! With compassion focused on limitless beings, and with faith and devotion born from understanding, Until enlightenment, may I go for refuge with knowledge and faith to the Lama and the Three Jewels! Knowing that this body, so difficult to obtain, will not remain for long, and that wherever one is born there is no opportunity for happiness, And seeing that the results of virtuous and non-virtuous actions are infallible, may I enter the sacred Dharma from the depths of my heart! Like medicine that extracts all the thorns of existence, like a supreme treasure of benefit and happiness for all beings, Like the loving mother who gives birth to all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, may I have unwavering faith in Bodhicitta! No matter how prosperous, may I not become arrogant, and no matter how impoverished, may I not become discouraged, May the vast strength of mind of the Buddha's children arise definitively in my heart! May Bodhicitta, the essence of the meaning of all the scriptures, The single path traversed by all the Bodhisattvas, The mother of all Buddhas, arise quickly in my mind! May I see clearly that all mental appearances are like dreams, That they are unborn and free from elaboration, And in the post-meditation period, may I perform great deeds for the benefit of beings through illusion-like samadhi! Having repeatedly helped and cared for with kindness, seeing these relatives drowning in the ocean of suffering, Like a mother whose beloved child is carried away by the water, may I pervade all beings with love and compassion! May I take upon myself the sins and sufferings of beings who have been my parents since beginningless time, And may I give my happiness and virtue to others, may the supreme altruistic intention blaze forth! Whatever appearances arise, whether as enemies, friends, or neutrals, the source of ignorance, attachment, hatred, and increasing afflictions, Like adding fuel to a blazing fire, may they become friends of Bodhicitta! The root of all afflictions that bind us to samsara, the source of various negative actions and sufferings, And the obstacles that obstruct the path to enlightenment, may I uproot the clinging to self! Just as karma causes nectar to appear as pus, knowing that seeing the faults of others is the impure appearance of one's own mind, May I always guard my mind and never abandon Bodhicitta! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

May the respect as vast as the ocean be for all sentient beings. Even if suffering, contempt, and slander, all kinds of unpleasantness fall like rain. May I see them as aids to the conduct of a Bodhisattva and accept them with joy. The perfections of existence are like a dream; even if I have them, may I not be attached to them. When I see them as a means to benefit others, may I not be afraid to give up my body and life. Even if someone I have cherished for a long time looks at me like an enemy. May I again increase their temporary and ultimate happiness with love. Even if the hosts of spirits who delight in flesh and blood want to eat this illusory body. May I not waver in my attachment to myself, and may I be able to benefit them with love. In the nature of mind, which is primordially peaceful, seeing all phenomena as unmoving. May I use the illusion, bad circumstances, and the false images of water moons to illuminate the meaning of Dharmata (法性). May I see all harm-doers as virtuous friends, and all suffering as ornaments of the mind. Seeing all obstacles as spurs to virtue, may I take adverse conditions as the path. Knowing that seeking my own happiness is my own enemy, may ordinary enemies arise as friends of Bodhi. Seeing sickness and suffering as purifying sins, may I take adverse conditions as the path. Seeing bad omens as a cause for attracting good fortune, may ghosts and demons arise as friends who grant accomplishments. Knowing that bad company and wrong practices are a boost to realization, may I take adverse conditions as the path. Knowing what to accept and reject, hitting the key points of accumulation and purification, pleasing the protectors, and overcoming obstacles and demons. Being skilled in means, may all kinds of obstacles arise as help, may I realize the practice of the four combinations. With great joy, dividing the portions to be cast away, training my mind in the Dharma that tames self-grasping. And with the help of pure means and aspirations, may I balance life and the practice of the holy Dharma. With constant mindfulness of the Guru and well-versed in the Bodhicitta of the two truths. May I not stray from the nature of this profound and vast Dharma, and may I have the good fortune of dying well. Whether afflicted by humans and non-humans, or when the elements are disturbed and bodily pains arise, or when strong afflictions arise. May the supreme Bodhicitta never diminish. Whether fearful illusions arise in the Bardo, or in the womb of a mother and in other lifetimes. May I not forget for even a moment the essence of the Dharma—the precious supreme mind. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
