Collection of Mind Training Teachings LJ29 དཔལ་ལྡན་བིཝ་པའི་བློ་སྦྱོང་། (Glorious Biwapa's Mind Training) 1-277 ༄༅། །དཔལ་ལྡན་བིཝ་པའི་བློ་སྦྱོང་། (Glorious Biwapa's Mind Training) ༄༅། །དཔལ་ལྡན་བིརྺ་པའི་བློ་སྦྱོང་ལགས་སོ། །(Glorious Birwapa's Mind Training) Namo Ratna Guru (ན་མོ་རཏྣ་གུ་རུ།,namo ratna guru,Homage to the precious guru) Glorious Birwapa said: Those cherished by beginningless love, For those kind ones, contemplate compassion. This harm-doer is my mother, In past lives, she often benefited me. Like a madman, without self-control, Tormented by non-virtuous karma, they'll turn to endless suffering. Remembering this, towards the three realms, Perfect compassion will arise. Thus he spoke. The unparalleled compassion yoga is: Compassion is the root of the Great Vehicle's Dharma. Without it, even with the six perfections and the generation and completion stages of samaya, one will fall into the lesser vehicle. Therefore, loving-kindness, compassion, and the mind of enlightenment are necessary. Loving-kindness is to benefit others, while compassion is to be cultivated starting with those who harm us. In a secluded place, maintain a balanced posture, take refuge, and generate the mind of enlightenment. Visualize yourself as the yidam, and visualize the guru above your crown. Visualize a great enemy in front of you who causes great harm to yourself and others, and cultivate the continuity and appropriateness of compassion alternately. First, straighten your body and focus your mind on the harm-doer, and verbally recite, 'This one harms me!' a hundred times, fifty times, or twenty-one times, which is continuous cultivation. 1-278 Secondly, contemplate that this harm-doer is definitely your mother from previous lives, and repeatedly recite, 'This is my mother!' Why cultivate compassion? Not just once or twice, but cultivate it countless times, thinking, 'This is my mother!' Why cultivate compassion? Because your mother has benefited you immeasurably at all times, thinking, 'This is my mother!' Why cultivate compassion? Generally, a mother is one who benefits, but how can she harm you now? Even if this harm-doer is not your mother, their consciousness is not free, like a madman. Generally, all sentient beings are like this, especially those who harm their own children, thinking, 'This is my mother!' and repeatedly recite. Why cultivate compassion? Because the result of such harm will cause them to be born in places like the Avici hell, tormented by intense suffering. This harm-doer's mother! Thinking, 'This is my mother!' and repeatedly recite. Thus, by contemplating the object, reciting, and thinking about the cause of compassion, alternating these five, signs such as tears flowing from the eyes, hair standing on end, or the inability to bear the physical and mental sensations will arise. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just as compassion arises, For the sake of all sentient beings led by the harm-doer, I resolve to attain Buddhahood. Generate this mind, and contemplate the harm-doer and all sentient beings attaining the state of a yidam (tutelary deity). Abide in non-conceptual wisdom for a long time. If conceptual thoughts arise, dedicate the merit. Having generated compassion for one being in this way, contemplate compassion for the intermediate and small harm-doers as well. Then, for relatives, neighbors, Tibet, Jambudvipa (the southern continent), the four continents, and contemplate the sky pervading the three thousand worlds, thus immeasurable compassion will arise. By contemplating in this way, one's own hatred, anger, and so on will naturally subside. Leprosy, demonic influences, and so on, the enemies will naturally be pacified. Towards all sentient beings, a loving mind like that towards one's only child will arise. Extraordinary non-conceptual wisdom will arise. Second, the yoga of the root cause is: 'When outer and inner elaborations are not harmonious, and wisdom becomes confused, remember this Bodhicitta (mind of enlightenment) of exchanging self and others. It destroys the hordes of demons and afflictions, and transforms into non-conceptual wisdom.' As it is said, the cause for attaining omniscience is Bodhicitta, which has two aspects: conventional Bodhicitta and ultimate Bodhicitta. Ultimate Bodhicitta is non-conceptual wisdom. The first (conventional Bodhicitta) has many aspects, but here the practice of exchanging self and others as taught by the lama is: When the body has a severe illness, and the mind has sorrow, both suffering, or when external enemies and demonic influences arise, or when strong afflictions arise, at that time, transform it into the path. If strong hatred arises, contemplate: 'May this hatred of mine cause the hatred of all hateful sentient beings, along with its causes and effects, to ripen upon me. Also, may all the fruits of afflictions, all sufferings, and all that is generated from the root of self-grasping in the minds of sentient beings, ripen upon me. In particular, the burning and roasting of hells, the hunger and thirst of pretas (hungry ghosts), the killing and exploitation of animals, the fighting of asuras (demi-gods), the suffering of the fall of gods, the birth, aging, sickness, and death of humans, the diseases of the sick, the poverty of the poor, the suffering of those with incomplete faculties, may all ripen upon me. May all obstacles from leisure and fortune to the grounds and paths, and all unfavorable factors, ripen upon my hatred.' Thus, exert effort in body, speech, and mind, and single-mindedly gather and take upon oneself all the sufferings of sentient beings. Practice in this way for one hour or two hours. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
