The Third Volume of the Quintessence of Instructions. Root Verses on Mind Training in the Great Vehicle. The Third Volume of the Quintessence of Instructions. Root Verses on Mind Training in the Great Vehicle. Root Verses on Mind Training in the Great Vehicle. Homage! I prostrate to the glorious and precious one who quickly bestows all happiness, the King who Accomplishes the Meaning. Train the mind of the three types of individuals who are the basis, and having taken up the two, aspiration and engagement, with one discipline of knowledge. First, train in the preliminaries. Think about the difficulty of obtaining leisure and endowment, and the faults of samsara, the result of karma. Consider all phenomena encompassed by self and others, outer and inner, vessel and contents, as appearing like something that is not there due to the power of dreamlike mind's delusion. Thus, examine the nature of unborn awareness, which is unobstructed by the two minds of those who realize it, without grasping at objects. In this way, the antidote that examines both body and mind is also liberated in its own place. It is free from grasping at existence and non-existence. After that, at the time of the arising of illusory circumstances, become an individual by relying on the two, giving and taking. Give all the merit of body, possessions, and the three times to others, and practice giving and taking alternately. Direct those two, giving and taking, to the outgoing and incoming winds. The three, pleasant, unpleasant, and neutral objects, the three roots of virtue without the three poisons of attachment, aversion, and ignorance. In all activities such as attachment, constantly train the mind with words without interruption. All the outer vessel, inner contents, fruit, suffering, sins, boiling, and without afflictions. Transform all the adverse conditions arising from sentient beings and the elements into companions on the path to enlightenment. How to make all unpleasant things, and all that arises, not imposed on others, but imposed on the one self-grasping. Meditate that all harm-doers, whether human or non-human, enemy or friend, are especially kind. From one's own mind, the mistaken appearances of harm-doer and harmed are held as the four kayas, and meditate without interruption. All emptiness is the supreme among those who protect the nature of the mind. Practice: Offering to the deity and the lama, purifying sins, offering to the spirits, offering to the Dharma protectors, possessing the four, is the best of methods. Apply all the adverse conditions that immediately give rise to suffering and intense attachment and aversion to meditation. A concise summary of the essential instructions to be practiced in one mind. These are the five powers.

It is for application, a prayer to dispel the habits of scattering white seeds, removing obstacles. The key instruction for the transference of the Great Vehicle according to the Prajnaparamita tradition is that the previous five powers are the very place to abide. In particular, cherish the key to conduct. All dharmas converge into one thought. Therefore, observe whether self-grasping has been overcome. The main point is not to let the words of others and one's own mind be ashamed by one's own mind. Always rely on pure joy. If all antidotes can be overcome, then wisdom is mature. Mind training is also not contrary to vows. Do not fall into clamor. Constantly train in the three essential points of impartiality. First, cherish yourself. When desire arises, it should arise from mind training. Transform recitations, and for the unadorned meaning, maintain the natural state of body and speech. Do not speak of impaired limbs. In particular, after entering the Dharma gate, do not think of any other aspects. Through mind training, all hopes for results, even attaining Buddhahood in this life and the next, should be abandoned. Avoid virtuous food mixed with self-grasping, like poison. Do not rely on good treatises that explain the harm done by others. Do not think of harsh words that pierce the hearts of others. Do not wait for the opportunity to retaliate. Do not punish humans, non-humans, or children for faults. Do not impose unwanted blame on others; do not put the burden of a mule on an ox. Do not place the desire for quick success on external things; do not place hope on this. Do not adopt a strategy of defeat in the hope of ultimate victory. Do not degrade mind training, which is like a god, into a demon. Do not seek the suffering of others as a means to your own happiness. All yogas such as food should be done alone. There is no other. First in the morning and last in the evening, use wisdom to do two things. Whatever arises in sequence, prosperity or decline. Also, endure without discouragement or self-deprecation. Both of these, protect the vows spoken of in the general Dharma, and especially protect the vows spoken of here, as if offering your life. For afflictions, train in the three difficulties: difficult to remember antidotes, difficult to stop immediately, and difficult to cut off completely in the end. The lama must be drawn into the light, possessing qualities, able to use one's own wisdom, complete with favorable inner and outer conditions, being the main cause.
