By the power of..., the non-humans of the white side begin to riot. There is not a single drop of rain in the sky, and all the plants wither, and the famine kalpa will occur. There are three types of famine: The first is the famine of eating with a spoon (thurma): A small amount of grain is poured into a bowl, and then dug out with a spoon and eaten, or cooked grain is placed on the tip of the spoon, passed around, and licked. The second is the famine of covering: Because there is very little grain, it is covered with a lot of garbage, and the family covers it. The third is the white bone pile: searching for bone piles in the cemetery, saying that these are the bones of the grain eaten by ancestors in the past, and then collecting them to drink. Also, at that time, people's bones would turn white soon after death. This situation will last for seven days. The cause of this birth is stinginess with one's own and others' property, obstructing generosity, stealing and robbing, so one is born in that era. This connects and causes everyone to be reborn as pretas. To counter this, now invite the Sangha to teach the Dharma, and protect the vows by swearing to the sky, so that one will not be reborn in that state. Some say that from the beginning to the end of the kalpa, there will be twenty periods of ten-year lifespans, during which weapons, diseases, and famine kalpas will occur in turn. Some also explain that weapons occur when the lifespan is thirty years, diseases when it is twenty years, and famine kalpa when it is ten years. Initially, the famine will last for seven years, seven months, and seven days, then disease, and finally the weapon kalpa will last for seven days. The Sutra of the Appearance of Maitreya prophesies: When the Buddha's teachings decline and the lifespan is ten years, three intermediate kalpas will occur, namely the famine kalpa, the disease kalpa, and the weapon kalpa. When ignorance becomes very strong, the disease kalpa will occur. When hatred becomes very strong, the weapon kalpa will occur. In the famine kalpa, the sentient beings who die will be reborn as pretas. In the disease kalpa, the sentient beings who die will be reborn as gods. In the weapon kalpa, the sentient beings who die will be reborn in hell. At that time, people will think of each other as wild animals and have such thoughts. At that time, the seven precious gems will also fall as rain from the sky, filling the entire earth, becoming a delightful joyful garden. Thus it is said. After seven days of the weapon kalpa have passed, those who fled to mountain caves and other places to hide will come out again, embracing each other and weeping, and with the thought of helping each other, they will remember the Dharma and keep the five precepts well. After that, from a ten-year-old person, a twenty-year-old child will be born. Then, people will have great faith in the Dharma, and gradually their lifespan will increase, eventually reaching countless years. Like this. Also, some sutras say that after the long initial period, when the lifespan is ten years, an emanation of the victorious Maitreya will descend to protect sentient beings and teach the Dharma. After that, the lifespan will increase by one year every hundred years, until it reaches eighty thousand years, and this period is the teaching of Maitreya. Also, in the Bodhisattva Pitaka, it is said that from the lifespan of ten years until Maitreya descends, in the kalpa of increasing lifespan, eighty thousand Buddhas will appear.
